I have 04 6MT TL-What Should Wife Get (Mazda)
I drive my wifes car a lot to keep the mileage down on my TL. I take long trips with her car for this case. Unfortunately she drives an automatic Civic (red) I hate it. Thank god it is coming up off of lease next month. She wants cheap and she does not have any sense for a car and the things I like to do with cars, etc. So to make her happy I narrowed it down to a Mazda 3i or 6i. These are both base models. God help me. I cant even get the 2.3 liter 3i or the 6 cylinder 6 i. Which would you rather get????? Granted, whichever one I get, I will be adding on rims, body kit, exhaust, intake for my pleasure even though it is an automatic.
Any help.......please I am stressing out!

Yea they are 5 speeds, however, my wife has to have an automatic and a base model to keep the payments $250 or less a month. No way a TSX would hit that 250 mark for a lease.

Mazda 3's (4-door or 5-door ) have received great reviews, are much cheaper than the TSX and are distinctive and good lookers to boot...
Given your situation, that's where I would spend my dough...

Avoid the 2.3L at all costs if you can. Automatic + 4 cyl = the sucks.
Get the 6i.
In that price range the Mazdas are great buys. They handle better than the Accords, Camrys and Altimas and cost a little less too.

I know you asked our opinions between the 2 Mazdas but I'd recommend an Altima, the 4 cylinder is no slouch with 175 hp. I had the S (with a stick) but test drove the automatic and was just as perky.

If you can get a 3i or 6i, why not get the loaded 3? Shouldn't the loaded 3 be around the price of a base 6? That's pretty much the way it is with Honda... Civic EX/Accord LX are roughly the same price.

The Mazda 6 would be the 4 cylinder kind which I feel is not as worth it as the 4 cylinder base 3. I looked in to the Nissan Altima and did not care for it. The looks I did not like at all. If I want Nissan, I would prob do the SE-R

My friend has a 6i with the factory bodykit and 5 spoke rims. It is a very impressive car for the money. He bought it used with 5,000 Miles on it for just over 18K. Though you are only looking to get the base model, might I recommend that you find a gently used 6 with the factory body kit like my friend did. He has never had any trouble with it at all and though I don't like it as much as my TSX, he didn't pay as much as I did.
As for the 3, if you decide that you want a 3, I strongly suggest that you get the 5 door. The 4 door version looks disproportional and looks as though the back end was chopped off. On the other hand, the 5 door looks sporty and aggressive while maintaining an affordable pricetag.
Good Luck with your decision.
