if it's an Acura battery installed by an Acura dealer, you can get some money toward a new one probably. I believe they have a 100 month pro-rated warranty (8.3 years!). you'll just need the paperwork or if you contact the dealer who put it in, they can figure it out. Worth a shot if you want to get an Acura battery!

 

Jeez...that's insane...I've yet to go longer than 3 years on a battery in my 3G before she shows signs that she's getting there...

 

I haven't bought a battery in years.....

 

Not OEM that's for sure. I was quite satisfied knowing it lasted that long since I bought it used.

Acura 100 month, installed 12/31/08. Currently on month 91. The last few years I've been running a 21 lb Braille from April to November, but still, the Acura battery has been through eight upstate NY winters with dozens of sub zero mornings and it still hasn't missed a beat.

and the sound system...I was putting a pretty big load on it with the black car and the 1700 watt system RMS.
And OMG does the 3G act crazy when the battery is going!

Well, the black one just went from heat and whatnot, the part that connects to apply pressure died.
I actually prefer it totally deflated, actually...

 

No weird issues at all. Just took a shit on me, which being almost 7 years old, isn't bad. We've been extremely hot the past couple of weeks too.

Heat is just as bad as cold for a battery.

 

My old Camry would go through one a year sometimes...

My sisters 2007 TC, as of August 2013, when she traded it, was still on its original battery from May 2006 when it was built...

Around here (Las Vegas NV) the Honda/Acura batteries cost less than the cheapo battery at Autozone. Also you don't have to have the dealer put them in to get the 100 month warranty. You just need to keep your receipt. Honda shops are usually cheaper than Acura of course. But I suggest you call around first. There are 3 Honda dealers in my area and one is much cheaper for batteries than the other 2.

BTW: Autozone doesn't even pro-rate their batteries anymore. It's just the short-term full replacement warranty (that you will never use). I laughed when the guy at the counter tried to use that as a selling-point OVER the Honda battery.

 

My understanding is battery power drops off and starting requirements are higher in cold conditions but hot conditions will shorten the life of the battery, output is at it's highest in the summer and starting requirements are lower as well.

How about this. Lead Acid batteries are crap. If you live in the heat, they say heat kills them. If you live in the cold, they say cold kills them. If you live in a sealed temperature-controlled clean-room, They say lack of dust and temperature fluctuations kills them. They simply don't last. It's a shit-technology. We've been making them......FOR CARS....for hundreds of years, yet they still only last the same old 3-5 years on average. Sounds like a racket to me.

Meanwhile, LiPo batteries for RC cars get better & better & cheaper & lighter each year. There has to be something better.

 

Maybe Elon Musk's new announcement this week will be batteries that can replace the shitty lead acid ones in cars nowadays.

lead acid batteries aren't really crap. It's how they are made that makes them crap or not. Car batteries in general- yes they are made relatively cheaply and the lead plates and matting inside aren't made perfectly. Sometimes the plates will short to each other and that is it for the battery. Most all car batteries are sealed too so for the avg consumer they are maintenance free.
There are lead acid batteries that can last well over 50 years like ones that used to go into submarines and were used for telecommunications main switching centers. But they they had to be maintained properly.

 

My 2008 is still rocking the 100 month OG Acura battery (pretty sure). Unless they used something different from the factory? Only has 46K miles but 8 years is still 8 years lol. That's insane!

Actually yes... The factory installed battery is different from the 100 month warranty battery. I think it's explained in the "warranty" section of the owners manual.

 

Lucky bastids my lightweight Braille avgs 1 stinkin year. Was hoping for 2 at least but I'm sure my short 3 mile commute isn't helping.

 

I just got a new battery two weeks ago. All of a sudden it didn't start up while I was out and I had to get it jump started (took 25 mins :/). The old Duralast battery was only 2.5 years old when I replaced it. I was kinda cheap and just put the same one back in.
