I got owned.
Don't want to go into too much detail yet. My head is killing me and the effects of whiplash are starting to settle in. Just a short summary first, I was involved in a 5 car pile up when the 2 guys behind me didn't stop, which caused me to get rear ended twice and smash into the guy in front. The guy directly behind me fled, so it's a hit and run. My TL took the blunt of the damage out of all 4 cars, don't know how bad the car behind me took it.
Onto the pics

I have more pictures but I think thats enough. The impact was strong enough to blow off the panel underneath the glove box. Additionally, the CD player sounds like its scratching the hell out of itself every time its turned on. The thing I'm most worried about is the wrinkle shown on the 3rd picture. The door gap is also noticeably thinner as well. I'll be bringing it into a shop tomorrow, anything I should look out for?

The reason you have a buckle in the right sail panel and a tight door gap is because there is a buckle in the right rear frame rail. Pull back the carpet in the trunk and you also probably see the floor is buckled/ wrinkled on the right side.

Makes no difference AT ALL. No matter what, the person behind you should be at least "4 seconds" back so they have more then enough time to stop even if the person in from locked up and hits ABS. There is almost NEVER a case where the person rear ended is found responsible, and some of the only cases that would is a form of road rage, even then both drivers are responsible. Ill say it again, it dosnt matter how hard he hit the brakes, he didnt hit they guy in front of him untill he was rear ended himself.

^Yes, in a perfect world... but I can tell you that the TL has great braking and some vehicles do not. And give me a break... people do not drive 4 car lengths behind the person they are following. I'm not trying to argue or blame the OP.
Purely, I am just curious.

It still doesn't matter, the law says four car lengths, weather the person was 4 back or not, it was their responsibility to be capable of stopping short of hitting the car in front of them, hence them being at fault for the damage to the TL.

Do you enjoy echoing yourself?
Yes, you are correct... but I'll tell you what. Let me try to articulate my point again.
You can follow me and I will slam the brakes as hard as I can... Let's see what happens.
And do you really stay four car lengths behind the car in front of you? You are arguing a mute point. Same rule as the "keep right unless passing" or "left is the fast lane", yet people still "cruise" in the left lane correct?
The OP's situation is very unfortunate but I was curious if it could have been avoided?

Burning Brakes
Clearly the car in front had to make some kind of emergency stop, or the OP wouldn't have had to brake hard. If you were him, I think you'd probably want to slam on the brakes too to keep yourself from rear-ending the guy in front of you.
Or the car(s) behind him weren't paying attention and didn't apply the brakes until it was too late - which means they're still at fault.

Hope the last guy in the line has good insurance. If the neck muscles tighten up, don't hesitate, see a doctor immediately to get treatment and continue until it clears up as it may linger for quite a while,
Good luck

That's incorrect as the gap between the cars must lenghen as the speed increases. It's usually a car length per 10 mph, or a 2 second interval if you want to count.

Thanks for the well wishes guys. Hopefully I can find a doctor open on Easter Sunday. I'll see what the body says today about the car and make my decision from there.
Yes the TL's braking performed flawlessly. It really was a perfect storm that caused this accident, and plus the highway only had 3 lanes (one carpool) which really limited everyone. The traffic hit pretty damn suddenly but with that being said, if the first three cars stopped in time, there is no reason the last two couldn't.

No airbags, the collision was really hard on the back, but the front was a mere "love tap". My foot was literally welded onto the floor on the brake pedal and the TL's brakes worked great.

So let me get the story straight.... your foot was welded onto the floor and the TL braked in time? The car behind you was not so lucky.
But I guess you were following too close to the one in front of you hence slamming the brakes? Now couldn't this have been avoided if you did what crestwood implies in the perfect world... to keep a distance? This way you could have slowly stopped and tapped your brakes to indicate to the person following you that you are coming to a stop?
What I'm getting at is:
the TL stops great or "on a dime"
BUT (myself included) forget that other cars are not as great. I tend to wait to the last second to brake and this is a total asshole move.

If your pain persists, you might consider going to the Emergency Room. I think it will be difficult to find a doctor available on Easter Sunday, except for the hospital.

Yeah I hear ya man. This world isn't perfect even with all the rules and guidelines.
I was just merely curious on what happened. If this is a result of similar driving styles between you and I.
As I ponder if I should change my driving habits

Yowzers! I really didn't mean to start anything.
OP forgive me for the tone change of your thread.
As I said in post #6, please do get yourself checked out. There's reason why almost everyone will tell you that.

But yea, I would highly recommend a change in driving habits. Leave extra space both in the front and back whenever possible.
And yes, Drew Sidora <3

1) Well I know I don't enjoy it when ppl crap up threads. Being a hypocrite was not intended.
2) Now is a good time to meet a sexy lady on campus with a car.![Thumbs Up](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)
3) Yeah I've noticed my driving needs to be toned down a notch.
4) Drew Sidora-Nguyen sounds more appropriate![rofl](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/rofl.gif)
So does the guy in the very back cover your car's insurance? Correct me if i'm wrong but it's the one in back of you that cover's your insurance/car.
