I did the unthinkable!

Let the flame war begin. I have been thinking about doing the unthinkable for several months now and as of yesterday....I have officially turned my lease in early. I was considering either buying out the lease or turning it in (depending on how much a hit I would take) After weighing my options I choose to pay a few thousand dollars of "wear and tear" and start my search for a new car.

Over the past few months I've become quite irriated with the little things it would take for me to get her into showroom condition. Such as repainting the hood and grille because of those annoying rock chips. 47K miles in a year... the rock chips were just unavoidable. I loved everything about this car with the exception of the daily maintenance it required simply because it was NBP.

Because of my wife I never installed the Tein SS or CAI. If I decide to buy another TL it will be strictly for weekend driving and show purposes only.. Oh and Yes, should I decide on another TL it there is no debate that it will be WDP (maybe when the 4th Gen is released I can get a hell of a deal on a new 08 TL-S.. thoughts?)

There is no way I can put another one of my babies through the hell of everyday turnpike driving... she deserves so much better than that. I'm going to start taking the train to work everyday until I decide on a new car. I'm looking at the Audi A6 S line for my daily driver

I want to thank everyone on this site for their great insight on everything from the best LED's to use to the right photography equipment. I've met a great group of people on this site and I look forward to continuing being a part of the AZ family... even if it's not in another Acura. Time will only tell

I'm pretty sure I already have the Teins and Intake sold, however, should the sale fall through keep your eyes posted in the BM.

Again, Thanks everyone!

I test drove the RL for an entire day and I couldn't stand it. Just didn't have that feel I wanted. I've test drove several Audi's and I'm in awe at everything from the interior design to the performance standards. I'm looking at the Audi A6 or possible S6. There is obviously several thousand $$ seperating the two models. The S6 is a complete monster but with a sticker price above $80K I would have to give a look to several other brands as well.

I loved the TL and had a hell of a time with her. I just really think the color got to me. Something I'm wondering now... but it's too late.. Is if I could have a found a reputable shop to actually do an entire repaint. I'm sure my TL will end up at one of my local dealers... I'm curious to see what they plan on reselling her for consider the mileage. From what they say.. they plan on replacing the the grille and badges back to factory too. Since it's jersey they are also going to have to remove the front tints. I don't see why they don't just try to sell her as-is but it's not my problem anymore.

A little bit of getting rid of her had to do with my insurance too... I was paying $727 a month for insurance on my TL and Envoy. My insurance is down to 225 a month with just my envoy now.. With a huge savings on the insurance and no TL payment.. I will be back with a vengence soon! If I could find a new 07-08 WDP TL-S for the right price I would pick her up in a second and continue looking for my daily driver.

Good luck with the new car search, and hopefully you'll be able to pick up another TL at some point.

Wow, 47K miles in a year...on a LEASED car? How many miles were you allowed to drive before you were dinged per mile?

I have an 18K mile lease. I was actually not not docked for mileage because I didn't have the car for the full 3year term. I paid just over 3Kin "wear and tear" due to the previous body work, front grille, tints, wheels, etc. I've been compensated for the body work from the at-fault parties in the previous accidents so it's really nothing out of my pocket that I have not already been compensated for.

Honda Finance called me today at work wanted to know my reasons for early turn in ... and I explained to them it was more cost effective for me. They are aware of the mileage and asked me what could make me reconsider my decision. I basically told them my mind is made up and the only way I would consider buying the car is if it were at a reasonable cost since it's used and sitting with 47K on the odometer.... They didn't throw out any numbers but I'm just curious why they would be calling to discuss my turn in? It's over and done with... Interesting though

hmm....with the thought of a NEW 08TypeS when the 09 come out, there could be several problems....

1) Avaliablity on any left over 08 Type S
2) If there are any left over color choices will be slim

But if you win...you willl get a hell of deal

Yeah..... I was paying $310 a month for the the two cars but when I moved everything from Virginia to Jersey...that's the increase I was hit with.

I have a bit of a heavy foot (2 tickets of 19 and 23 over in the last 2 1/2 yrs) and I'm obviously paying for it.

I agree, I just got my 08 TL Type-S last Monday. I really wanted the MRP but dealer said no one had it and I even checked the online inventory for various dealers and no one had a MRP, plus they were down to like 4 after I bought mine

Better scoop up that 07/08 TL-S soon.......I know when I bought mine in April there were only about 6 left. I got one of the last couple of WDP's. My buddy bought the last KBP that same evening. We both got some killer deals. I'd be looking NOW! Good luck

Wait for the new body style before buying. You may not even want an old TL-S at that point. If you do, you won't have to worry about getting a black as those are some of the quickest to go first.

I'm not sure you'll want a A6 daily driver because I'm sure you'll have the same feelings about that car as you did the TL and end up trading it in early as well.

I think you should get a Weekend car, be it A6 or TL, and perhaps a cheap car as your Daily.

Is this statement based on your personal experience or just on hearsay? I've owned two Acuras (TL and MDX), a Lexus (GS430), two BMWs (Z3 and MINI Cooper S Convertible), and an Audi (S4), and I can say first-hand that the reliability and expense of the German makes are no worse than those of the Japanese brands. In fact, I'd venture to say that the German cars have actually been *less* expensive under warranty than the Japanese cars because of the inclusive maintenance (my Audi is a 2004, so before they discontinued inclusive maintenance).

There was certainly a deserved stigma for a good long while around poor reliability of German autos, but these days my experience has been that the ownership experience is on par with that of the Japanese luxury brands.

Man over $700/month in insurance for two cars is ridiculous. You must have a money tree out back to afford all these expenses, like insurance, gas for your commute, and an S6 (car you're in the market for). Anyways, if your finances permits, happy car shopping.

I agree the car insurance is absurd. I've done some researching and I can reduce my insurance costs significantly if I choose to go with "limited tort" basically only allowing me to sue if I become severely injured in an accident. I switched from Virginia where insurance is pretty cut and dry. I'm in complete love with the S6 and although finances do permit I am a bit nervous is taking on a car in that price range because as quick as I get bored with cars I could not see myself giving up something and taking such a huge loss as I would likely on an S6. The A6 however is a little more affordable but in the end it's just a car. I'm pretty sure you guys will see me in the near future and still within the Acura family... although if that happens you will see me on the other side of the table in a WDP... I just don't know if I will be able to stomach the paint match issue.... time will tell

Even though I have never personally owned an Audi, I have a couple close friends who have, my friend has a A6....Her car might as well be registered to the dealer cause its always there My other friend has the Audi SUV, I think its called the Q7, he is always complaining about problems, a coworker has an A4 and he has also mentioned a few problems. I know lots of people who own VWs and have numerous problems as well. I'd also like to mention my friend who has a VW Jetta, she brought it brand new in 2001, that car has 200k miles and she has never had one problem with it, so its just luck of the draw I guess

Hey Evader, no flames from me. Everyone has their reasons for what they do. No matter what choice you make, come on out anytime we have something going on. Good luck with your car search, and of course, all that matters is if you like it.
