14510-PGE-A01 Correct?
The auto tensioner is changed when you change the timing belt, not the adjuster as mentioned above. I have attached a link with the diagram. See part #8

I guess thats the root of my confusion. so The auto tensioner is the part that is not required just recommended to change during the timing belt change?

It's not required, but there's no way I'd trust it to last another 105K miles. Mine appeared fine when I replaced it during my TB change, but several other members who have done their own TB change have found the auto tensioner leaking.

The dealer is not ripping you off by suggesting that it be replaced. That is a smart recommendation. However, if they are charging you $150 just for the part, they are ripping you off on that aspect of the deal.

My hydraulic tensioner was found to be leaking when I had my timing belt / water pump job done at 103,000 miles. Hamilton Honda where I and many here in the Northeast have the job done recommend changing it out with the job. Only $75 extra, and at Hamilton Honda, you're out the door for UNDER $500 including ALL parts, labor, and tax.

Oh man im like so confused i guess.
Let me start over
going to get timing belt done the package is 599 for every thing except (the part i am confused on )I think its the 14520-RCA-A01. The service guy said if blah blah part was bad it would cost me 150 to replace.

That is the part that is not normally changed unless it shows sign of wear by the dlr. BUT every one hear says change it. I found the part locally for 90ish bucks but really need to make sure I know what i need before i go get it.

14520-rca-a01 / tensioner, timing belt auto
14510-rca-a01 / adjuster, timing belt
19200-rdv-j01 / water pump

14550-RCA-A01/ Idler Pulley
19301-P8E-A10 /Thermostat Assy

I figure when you are in there do everything you can.

In fairness, I got all the parts via wholesalepart guy and had my mechanic do it. Parts alone were $367.00

$150 for the part sounds about right assuming it is an Acura dealer quoting you this....of course I am not saying that is how much you should pay, just what I would assume it would be from the Acura dealer with their insane (25% over list) parts mark-ups.

When I got quoted by the local Honda dealer, they did not include this part either. When I asked about it, they stated that they only replace it if it is showing signs of failing.

when TB/WP service get done I just replace all the cam seals and tensioner just to be safe, don't feel like to come back and redo them.

150 is list so he quoted me the normal stealership price. I knew I could get it a lot cheaper so i just asked him if I could bring my own and he said that would not be a problem at all.

this is the kicker I called my local acura dlr which has always provided a pack of ky jelly to ease the pain from the pricing. still in amazement but the guy said how about 94 bucks I said I will come get tomorrow thanks. That saves me on shipping and I can besure to have the part before I go. Maybe they have new parts guy I don't know.

Most stealership parts departments do that. Case in point, original wiper blade rubber insert replacements list for about $5 each side. Most Acura stealerships will try to rip you off for DOUBLE that. So when I go in to buy them, I bring along the printout of the page with that part info from acuraoemparts.com and assure them I'm not paying more than list price. Works every time! And if it's a dealer in NJ, they usually try to give it to me for free, out of tribute and respect as head of the NJ Family, LOL

Now back to the hydraulic tensioner. Try to buy it from a Honda dealer as it's one of those Acura/Honda interchangeable parts. And like I said, Hamilton Honda only charges $75 for it.

Meh, I've never been charged more than list (and most of the times, less than list) at any Acura dealership. But the OP either misunderstood the quote, or that dealership was really screwing him. Since they allowed him to bring his own part, I'm gonna guess he misunderstood the quote for the part.
