How's this price?
Hi,
My name is Peter. I'm new to the forum. I've been looking to buy a 2004 TL for the past couple of weeks. Well, I came across a used 04 TL w/ navigation and 2500miles on the odometer for $33k. I offered $32k to the person and they accepted my offer. So did I get a good deal? The car is leased from an Acura dealer in Carlsbad, CA. The current owner would like to use my $32k to payoff the car and transfer ownership. What do you think?

I will have to pay sales tax. I'm thinking with registration and tax i'll end up paying $35,200. Tax in my county is 7.75%. I priced it at edmunds.com and got $32,120 for inv. and $33,762 for what others are paying. In So Cal. TL's with nav are hard to come by. Most people are paying close to MSRP. I got a couple of quotes and they avg. around $34,725. Maybe with some wheeling and dealing I might be able to get it a bit lower.

Just curious, why is he/she selling the car? I would try to get the VIN and then have the dealership print off a service history for the car....just to ensure you aren't getting yourself a lemon or something that has been serviced a million times for a million different problems.

You need to REALLY understand why such a new, in demand car is for sale. I'm assuming that you got the service reports from the dealership prior to making your offer, right? If not, then you need to get those in your hands and go over them with a fine tooth comb to best understand if the car is a potential Lemon. Remember that there is no such thing as lemon law protection on USED vehicles (even from the originating dealership). If they took back the car due to numereous service issues it could well be a problem car... BE CAREFULL!!!!

It's also very possible that the original owner discovered s/he could not make the payments, or some life event occurred to change his/her personal situation. Early sale does not always mean lemon. But please be careful!

Thanks everyone for all the good pts. The seller gave me the dealer name and contact for the car. I will contact them promptly to get the service records. I asked why she wanted to get rid of the car and the story goes like this. She got the car for her husband thats driving a jeep. she didn't think the jeep was safe so she go him the car. well it turns out he wants the jeep and the car, but wants to sell her audi tt. she won't sell the tt and since he doesnt want to get rid of the jeep, she's decided to sell the car.
she was pretty quick on accepting the offer so i was wondering if i got a good deal. i did asks her if it was a lemon and of course she says no.

Here's the vin#19UUA66294A030027. Carfax reports that it arrived in Feb. 04 with something like 6miles on the odometer. Would that be considered an early model?
I haven't asked but I highly doubt she's visits any forumboards. She's probably your typical So Cal babe. She'd rather have fun in the sun than sit in front of the computer typing away. I know, I shouldn't pass judgement on someone I never met.

My VIN is 28,XXX and I got my TL delivered the last part of January/early February and have had little or no problems with mine.
This is BEFORE they started putting the new, retooled EL42's on the car but I don't have any problem with my old EL42's.
