How to replace steering wheel control button backlight bulbs?

I have an 06 TL.
The backlight of "accelerate, decelerate and cancel" button on my steering wheel is out.
Can anyone please post a detailed step by step tutorial on how to replace those light bulbs along with some schematics/diagrams?
Dealer wants to charge a lot for it and to my surprise, the Acura Care extended warranty which I paid $1000 for doesn't cover that.
I was really a lover of Acura, but with all the rattling noise and the small things that need to be fixed, I'm not sure if I'll buy another Acura again.

No crap. Same thing happened to me, a few of the lights on the steering wheel went out and Acura replaced them under warranty no problem. They must stick it to you on the fine print on those extended warranties...

Same thing happened to me, if you guys go to https://www.hondacuraworld.com/ they have the steering wheel removal instructions there. I know all you have to do is remove the airbag, no need to unplug i think, just to get to the screws holding the button tabs and getting to the bulbs from there.

Part numbers are,
Bulb #9 36773-SEP-A01 BULB A 2 2004 TL 4.32 3.46 Qty:
Bulb #10 36774-SEP-A01 BULB B 2 2004 TL 4.32 3.46 Qty:

Are those the same bulbs as the sweat heater switch backlights (ie. 8mm wide, 10mm tall?)??

The AcuraCare fine print excludes replacement bulbs except for "instrument panel illumination bulbs". You might try and get the dealer to replace the bulbs under this exclusion. I know that the steering wheel controls are not exactly instrument panel bulbs but they are close enough that you might get lucky. You also might consider going to another dealer who might be more accommodating.

the bulbs should be a covered item. if you s/a runs the part # it will show on in what is covered and not. is you a vsc or power train only? that will also make a decision on parts replaced.

There are at least 10 different backlight bulbs in the 3G TL interior. The Delray Acura website can help you figure out which ones you need, but it's a slow process.

The single backlight bulb (not the two pilot light bulbs) for the seat heater switch is 35852-SEP-A02

well talked to acura here in town. seems like the base is blue just like the indicator lights which would suspect us to believe that it is 8mm wide n 10mm tall, right?

I am having the car go in Friday for this exact same thing. Even my Passenger seat heater switch stopped lighting up but it still works.

volumn and channel steering controls light up, as well as all the other buttons on the steering wheel.
I'm only worried about not handling the replacement procedure well and the airbag deploys.
Anyone has any suggestion what to pay attention to/not to?

That link above for steering wheel removal should be made a sticky by the moderator; it's what so many people are looking for.

Steering Wheel Bulb Replacements
As far as the bulbs go, here's what you need: Bulb L-7219. I installed these a few months ago for all the steering wheel controls, they are the perfect match. Acura may officially have different part numbers for the bulbs, but when you open it up, you can see they are all the same. You can use the existing lamp bases, remove the burnt out bulbs, and replace them with these wheat grain replacements. Since the leads on these lamps are so long, I wound them twice around the base for better contact.

http://www.newark.com/spc-technology...amp/dp/53M5340

# Supply Voltage:12VDC
# Lamp Base Type:Wire Leads
# Power Rating:720mW
# Bulb Size:T-1
# Length:6mm
# Luminous Intensity (MSCP):0.15
# Current Rating:0.06A
# Average Rated Bulb Life:10000h
# Bulb Length (MOL):0.25"

Hope this helps someone.

This thread has great info on the OEM bulb part numbers.
There is a series of DIYs in the 3G Garage on replacing all of the OEM bulbs with LEDs created by myself and DeathMetal. Do yourself a favor and check those out for lots of pics and info on all of the lights, including the steering wheel lights.

He is right, check the garage, DeathMetal has done some major detail work on the cars lights. But he has changed all of them from the OEM green light to white and blue surface mount LEDs..very clean look

Save the blue condoms on the original bulbs if you want to preserve the greenish cast to the lit buttons. They slide off easily.

I noticed the cruise button on my 06 CPO isn't lit either. I had an 04 in the past and couldn't remember if that one lights up. Anyone know? If it's supposed to, I have another item to add to my next oil change.

All of the buttons on the steering wheel light up. If one or more of yours do not light, then you have bad bulbs.
