My SRS light is on, and no steering wheel controls work. I'm 99% sure my clock spring is to blame. The part isn't that expensive, but I don't know if I can replace it myself, because working on a 3G is somewhat difficult. Does anyone know how to replace this part? I've done several searches, but I got no results for the 3G. Do I need to remove anything aside from the steering wheel? Will the airbag go off even if I've disconnected the battery? Am I better off just paying a mechanic?
Here are the scans for cable reel replacement and airbag removal/replacement. Many people have stripped the two T30 torx bolts because there is a good deal of thread locker on them. Use a top quality torx bit and be very careful when you try to remove them.
Is it possible to recoil the clock spring? When I removed my steering wheel, the ribbon fell out of the housing and it doesn’t seem to re-coil properly. I have a feeling Acura broke it when they did the airbag recall work and then Jerry rigged it back together.
