How Often are TL's stolen?
How Often are TL's stolen?
well i had LoJack installed on my TL when i purchased the car so it would lower my insurance rates and it sure did help a lot(15%) also came along with the Early Warning System.
My question is, Is it easy for a TL to be stolen? And how often...i hope they're not like integras =(

"Early Warning System"? Let me guess, it alerts if your car *might* be stolen?
Seriously, how does that work?
In ~4 months here I haven't heard about anyone having their TL stolen - some loose change and some rims is about it.
I don't think it's easy, given the engine immobilizer and key - I guess joy-riders are out, but for a professional, I'd guess it's possible.

Pros dont need keys- they tow the car away and strip it for parts or ship it overseas
Dont ever drive your TL into Mexico and think its coming home with you
The headlights are a valuable item- keep low deduct on comp damage because they destroy the fender and hood to get the entire assembly- just for the bulbs!!!
in 60 seconds!! and wont even trip the alarm in the process!
LoJack is good theft prevention- thieves want unprotected targets- and having nice wheels and drops are a good indication there is stereo eqiupment inside too

The best anti theft device I have ever seen was when finding a place to park in a big city, found a little alley by the bar and a homeless guy selling their homeless newletter sitting out there.
I asked if this was "his spot"
Yep! Sure is
Ok Here is 2 bucks- and 3 more when I get back- you keep an eye on the car for me?
Yes Sir! No one will get near it
And no one did- better than valet, and assisting someone feeling good about themself too

The Early Warning System came with the LoJack package, it just notifies you by calling your phone(add up to 5 phone numbers) when your car is being moved without the key.
LoJack Early Warning System:
LoJack early warning system alerts you if someone has moved your car without your permission. This means the police can begin tracking your stolen vehicle without any lost time.

Good finds.
Forgot about the one in the first link.
The other 2 were just about or just before my joining.
Still, based soley on post count, theft of the TL seems less common than, say, "The Thump in the Trunk" -

How true!! Right next to the salvation army office is a big parking lot where many homeless people hang out. They always offer to "watch your car" for you when you park there. Since the lot is across the street from the criminal court and the district attorney's office, I tend to decline their services, unless it is on a weekend and at night where the govt offices are closed.

I like lojack, but even better, I love mobileguardian. Instead of using lojacks normal cellphone signal, Mobile Guardian uses GPS systems to track the car, you can disable ignition, track and trace the car, set speed traps, turn of ignition and lock the car. As well you can do this all. I love it and use it on the MDX. Benefit of it too is that it was cheaper. just my
NO WAY near as much as Integras. Integras take the crown, hands down, PERIOD, anywhere they're available. I had just about the fugliest, stock aside from Si wheels 95 sedan, and yet someone still broke into it.

what if someone offers him a higher price to not tell where your car will be after ???
No prob- these guys have honor and are loyal to the original bidder- they even have someone cover for them on bathroom breaks! A lot of them have military backgrounds,
and no one is living on the street because its fun and good for the soul
Parking across from criminal court- you bet I want security on my ride!- There are criminals in there!!!- come out needing bail money for a buddy, or a ride...and there sits your baby...
If you live in America you can find these "personal security consultants" everywhere, you dont have to look for them, just open your eyes
Side note- I take bags of clothing and ask if they "can help distribute them"
Never ask- do you need these?- its about dignity

I was quoted ( IMmobil _+KEy). I think breaking a window take 1 sec?
Yes, when they want to steal your car. I think they do some little research.
Proffesional used higher ends technology which is TOWing and deactivate blah blah blah your system.? lolzz
easy to steal
I had a 2008 Acura TL type S beautiful... it was stolen from mi condo parking lot. no traces of broken glass. when I checked the security cameras from the condo, we found out it was a towing truck and a crew of three. it took them only 76 seconds to hook it and flee. I guess there's nothing that can be done against a towing truck. I did not have the lo jack installed, as I thought that the acuralink real time traffic info from the GPS would be useful. it was not. I miss my car
I know its not a TL, but I thought the funniest thing about the ITRs that had the immobilizer key was that you could simply swap an ecu in from an LS integra and the car would start right up by breaking the steeting column lock and a screwdriver in the ignition.
I know the towing cars away issue has gotten bigger and most of the guys that do it can haphazardly grab and go. If it lets go, who cares? It wasnt your car anyways.
However, I think especially in light of the current economy, that over half of the "reported stolen" vehicles are most likely insurance fraud by the owners themselves. It's typically more common in an arson case though, as the car is then quickly recovered and insurance pays faster.
