if it is your first oil change then no.Wait till the MID tells you cause thats your breakin oil(very important).I change mine when it tells me,engines are built way better then 20 years ago and alot of manufacture dont use the 3k rule of the 80's except maybe at really high milage.

Acura Owner Manual suggests to simply follow your MID display, however, if you prefer and insist, you could change your oil/filter anytime you want.

There Is Not Break-in Oil In Your Car. It Is Straight 5-20 Weight. I Have 900 Miles On My Car And Will Change The Oil And Filter At 1000 Miles. I Will Do It Again At 3000 Miles And Every 3000 After That. I Change My Own Oil Because I Look At It To See If There Is Something Going On Inside The Engine. I Have A 2003 Cl As Well And The Oil Is Plenty Dirty At 3000. Viscosity Changes As Oil Gets Older. Interesting Reading On The Internet About Oil And Filters. Be Sure To Reset The Computer When You Change Oil. I Have Been Changing Oil Like This On All My Cars Since I Started Driving And Never Had An Engine Problem Due To Oil Breakdown. It Is Cheap Insurance......good Luck

How many of us had the dealer try to override the manufacturer's advice? The last few vehicles I've purchased have always had the dealer try to force oil changes down my throat way more often than needed. My Acura dealer has a new trick that I haven't seen before. They publish a fancy glossy "Maintenance Guide" that says the following at the front of it: Originally Posted by rets

"As you will notice when reviewing this Maintenance Guide, the recommended fluid change intervals match or are even more frequent than the factory's "Severe Conditions" recommendations listed in the Owner's Manual. Due to the <my state> climate, with it's hot summers and cold winters, your Acura's fluids tend to deteriorate more rapidly than in other geographic areas. <My dealer> has therefore incorporated these intervals into the Maintenance Guide to promote longer life and more trouble-free performance from your Acura"
I'm sorry, but my TL is garaged and my commute is moderate (~10 mi. each way - plenty of time for everything to warm up). That simply does not warrant me coming in twice as often as I need to for a $35+ oil change from the dealer. I'll listen to the manufacturer and the MID thank you very much.

It seems to have been pretty well confirmed on some other sites that the really IS break-in oil in our engines. Analyses have shown extra molybdenum, which is used as a break-in additive. That, however, doesn't mean that changing your oil early is going to do harm or cause it not to break in. If your engine isn't using any oil, it's probably broken in already. I changed mine at 5000. That was at about 9 months of driving, though. MID was still at 60% oil life.

Whether you pay attrention to it or not, having the MID telling us when to change the oil. That is something "I love" about this car.

new car? use the 5/5/5 method during breakin, then use synthetic oil and change out every 4-6k (depending on usage and environment), or every 6 months.
5/5/5 is 500,1000,1500 miles (helps get out small particulates) and use regular oil to help components cut and seat. at 1500 switch over to full synth.
the cost of full synth per year works out to be the same as dino oil every 3k miles (3k is a myth but people use it). what you gain is a better oil and less time under the car (or in shop).
