How much are you paying for B1 service?

Hey all, Im about to take my car in for B1, and was quoted $82, which included oil and filter change, tire rotation, and 43 point inspection. If that's really all that is, Im thinking about just doing an A1 and rotate the tire at a tire shop, and just forget about the 43 point inspection, is that smart to do, or am I being a Jew?

I'd bet that "43 point inspection" takes the mechanic at least 5 minutes! 5 Minutes=.5hrs flat rate for the mechanic and dealer.

I was told the major part of the B1 inspection was to examine the brakes when the tires were being rotated .. the rest is normal fluids and visuals when they are under there.

Buy a cheap 2 ton floor jack and 4x4 x 12" to use as jack stands if you don't have them and rotate your own. Oh and a cheap torque wrench. The self satisfaction is amazing and football doesn't start till after lunch on Saturdays.

Do it yourself or find a good independent shop to do all of your work. Use the dealer for warranty work only.

How hard is it to look up Scheduled Maint in your Owners Manual or search for RECENT (like 3 in the past 10 days or so) threads here?

(or maybe you were being sarcastic ???)

Alright, just got back from the oil change and "tire rotation" and "inspection". I slightly curbed both of my right side wheels during parallel parking about 2 months ago, and the two wheels on the left right are perfectly, and I just checked the wheels, guess what? The two right side tires are curbed, and the two left side tires are perfectly fine!!!

Now, I just called the service dept. and no one answered the phone, I guess they get off early on Saturdays. Now, I'm thinking about calling in Monday and speak to the service manager, and ask for a refund. If they refuse, then I will just call my cc company and do a charge-back. Any advice on what I should do???

I bet that service didn't adjust your tire pressure either.

If you don't DIY, a trustworthy independent mechanic is better for the routine stuff (although I tell mine not to adjust tire pressure- he uses recommended psi, and I use higher psi).

More than likely, they did front to back like with directional tires rather than cris-crossing them. Next time, just mark your tires.

No, I curbed my two right wheels on separate occasions, and I know what each mark looks like on each wheel.

You were right the first time - should have trusted your instincts. (not the "being cheap" "statement" - just the fact you knew something wasn't right with the work vs cost)

43 point inspection and associated cost is fraud. It literally is something that use to be accomplished for free due to only taking 5 min max. We use to call it a "26 point inspection. Free during each and every visit - you know why?? Because looking things over allowed us to identify what needed attention, then fix it if the customer desired and then charge them legitimately.

Acura, "attempting" to portray an upscale service appeal charges you for this "inspection" as if they are doing you a service - and as others have eluded to, most often most of the inspection points aren't even accomplished...

MANY stealerships run this racket - just try not to be one of their victims.

Just one of the numerous reasons I wouldn't allow even my worst enemy to think a dealership provided cost effective, competitive and by no-means better vehicle care.
And then of course you have to run the risk of your car getting F'ed up while in their A+ service arms. Due possibly to the oil change tech knowing less about cars (let alone any care for yours) than my 10 year old son.

Here's a motto to live by (and I worked at a very good dealership for 8+ years):

WARRANTY WORK - Dealership, EVERYTHING ELSE - NOT Dealership...

By the way, $82 is one of the cheaper "B" services I have seen.

Sorry to hear about your rim damage - I'll be interested to hear if your service dept remotely entertains the thought that they are responsible.

Best of luck

I'm sorry,
Did I mention how much I despise Dealerships??

I should change my avatar to something like
"Director of Dealership Bashing"

Bashing isn't even the right word - I just try to inform folks on the near-raged-edge fraudulent activities that "all" departments of "most" dealership perform...

"Venture into them with as much knowledge as possible - and keep your wallet and backside covered at all times...." If not, at least go there "prepared" to be violated (extra cash and lubricants).

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!

Since I get free oil changes and 6 mos rotations, my dealership doesn't charge me for A1 or B1 services.

I don't know what they do or don't do, but I have low miles and will be under the warranty threshold fo the entire time I have my car, so they may as well do it now or do it later for free!

Dealers suck... I call the dealer where I bought the car and they quote me $85 for A-1. I say isn't that just oil change and tire rotation ? The guy says yes. Quote me for just the oil change and tire rotation, he says that will be $55... When it comes to confirming the appointment, he raises the price to $65... I have to correct him and point out that I have the website pulled up with the price listed...

I call the next dealership - right off the bat they quote me $49 for A-1 - in/out in less than an hour.
