Guys, I have a paint-chipped bird-poop stain on the hood of my car. Yes, the bird poop ate right through the paint and the gray/silver of the body is actually showing under chipped paint on about 1 inch of my hood. In addition to this, my hood has tons of smudges and stains from being kept outside in bad weather, near a tree, etc.

The rest of the paint on my car however is in great shape, no major issues.

This got me wondering - how much would it cost to get a new hood? I think getting a new hood would make the car look totally new again since the rest of the paint is as-new. I have an ABP - I would love to hear your guys input on this one!! And if anyone of you have replaced a hood before, let me know how much it costs, etc. thanks in advance!

 

just get your hood repainted.. why would u need a NEW HOOD?
paint job would cost around 200-300 dollars im guessing..

 

i figured a paint job wouldn't be as good as a new hood since paint jobs can be done improperly, etc. but u make a good point.

New hoods do not come painted, so you would have to get it painted, so you might as well paint yours and save the cost of the new hood.

 

Just get it painted. Ask around- your friends or co-workers- regarding body shops. I'm sure there are good ones in your area. It would cost you more getting a new hood.

 

Keep your old one too. Try putting a Faux air scoop on it, I am curious to see how that would look on a TL, I think if it was done right it wouldnt be too bad.

HOOD PANEL = $510.97
HOOD OUTSIDE (Refinish) -- 2.5 hours @ $76/hour = $190
HOOD INSIDE (Refininish) -- 1.5 hours @ $76/hour = $114
Total to replace and repaint the hood = $814.97

If it's not paid by insurance than don't do it.

I think I will look into just getting it repainted - let's see how it goes... if its over 300 bucks, I'm just not gonna bother.

 

They probably can buff it out for you.
