Angry How Much to Repaint Rear Bumper?

I managed to pull a genious moment the other day... I was backing in to my parking stall in the parkade, wasn't paying attention and took my foot off the brake before I pulled on the good ol' emergency brake... rolled back in to the gaurdrail (Damn gradients). There is some minor scratching and a few paint flakes coming off... overall not too bad, but curious how much it'd be to repaint (a good job). If it isn't going to be too much, I'll repaint it right away, otherwise I'll hold off until I have a few more blemishes...

I just had an estimate to repaint my rear bumper panel, due to some jackass hitting me in a parking lot and driving away.

The estimate for sanding, repainting and clear coat was $445. Hope this helps.

Post Expensive dings

I was quoted $255.00 for a new bumper cover and another $250 to paint it (3-step).

I had my mother bump into my bumper with her aviator while parking, TWICE. I bought touch up paint and it looks good as new. you can only see the difference if you go up close and already know where the damage occured. If its not that bad, i would jsut get touch up paint, then repaint the bumper in a year or so. That is what im going to do, becuase i know i can expect mroe bumper damage.

Yeah, that it what I am thinking I will do... I do my best to take care of my car, but I am finding that now that I am in a public garage rather than the garage at my old house, it is becoming significantly harder to ensure bad things don't happen. Since more will probably happen, might as well just patch it up for now, and wait to see what happens... if it survives 6 months or so, repaint it then...

Is it worth it?

Here is my "indentation" ding that I got myself- no one else to blame. I backed into the tire of my Jeep from the side.

There is about a one inch indent in the plastic- no cracks or flaking but it is visable to me in the lower part of the center/left.

I can get a new bumper cover painted and I would install myself for about $500

I can get it repaired and repainted for about $ $300.

Or, I could get the A-Spec lower lip piece and apply it OVER the lower bumper for $ ???.

Or... I could ignore it and wait for the next one.

Anyone know what the A-Spec rear bumper lip goes for?

$100 is what I apid to have my Odyssey's bumper repainted. Go to the dealer and ask who theyuse to touch up cars on the lot. Normally they have a Dent Doctor and a paint guy that makes minor repairs for them insted of running it through their body shop.

A bumper cover on a 2g was between 525 and 565 depending on the shop. I would get it replaced. To avoid having your car spend a night in the body shop, have them paint it and then show up the next day and do the swap. It takes about an hour.

Well you plant a 20 dollar bill and you will have one...

Plastic covers can be repaired but as many body shops have said, plastic will always show some imperfections. Since you already have to repaint, the additional cost is about 250 - 300 for a new cover. And as I said if you go that route, then you will not have to rent a car for a day.

Then again, if you plan to keep the car and do not care much about a small mark on the bumper, wait a while till you have the cake to replace it. It does not prevent you from driving the car...
