...and for any of those knocking people for dropping boatloads of money on our cars, saying we could've bought a 50K luxury car instead;
$30K + $20K in mods > $50K stock ....IMO.
The satisfaction of having a "ONE-OFF" car, tweaked n' tuned to your liking is greater than rolling in a stock, high end car that looks just like 4 other cars in your neighborhood. Needless to say, this is exclusively a statement for enthusiast only.

I think cars are awesome... and I love my TL-S very much. But my car is not an investment; it's a use of cash. The purpose of an investment is to forgo consumption today in expectation that you will earn some return and have a higher consumption ability in the future. Every car related purchase just begins depreciating once it is bought. I guess if you win $$$ from competitions with your car that could be considered an investment then.
That said... I bought a new Type-S badge when it got jacked the first time for $40 shipped. Only to have it jacked again 3 weeks after reapplying. Now I have debadged everything except the Acura sign. So I'm down on some floss ($0.03).
I'll probably get moleskin and tint at some point... so that will be about $200. Until then, i'm at $40.03. I'm aiming to keep it under $1000.

You have other priorities which are higher than your car. So you spend more of your money on those things. Either that, or as you mentioned, you can't afford to dump money into modding.
For me, I enjoy spending money on the car (or modding the car, IOW, not exactly spending money on it). So, I choose to do so.
It's definitely a disease.

Tires- $850 I know this is a grey area since they are a wear item but they were also my single biggest performance gain too.

I've done tons of upkeep items like floor mats, interior trim pieces, anything to keep the inside perfect but I guess those are wear items.
No plans for more except maybe the braces. I have another money pit that has consumed (in one year) 20K.
