How many of you drive in manumatic?
Generally speaking, how many of you guys driving in manumatic?
Have you noticed better gas milage? Better performance? And when you guys drive in manumatic do you let off the accelerator when up shifting?

i've heard lifting on the throttle between shifting on a manumatic is easier on the transmission. I've tried it on a G35 and was not impressed. It's pretty much impossible to drive the car smoothly like that.
50/50. I think it actually gives you worse gas mileage. It absolutely is quicker/funner than auto though. And I sometimes do let off the accelerator when up shifting just so it feels/sounds like a manual lmao.
lol i always upshift while accelerating, you just have to make sure you know how to shift at the right RPM. If you bad shift you will get a bad delay of gears. Gas mileage gets worst though but is pretty much to drive like that.

The manumatic is one of the things I do not like about my car. It kills me how it always shifts out of 1st when I want to hold it, then I can't shift back down to it. Also, I feel like I need to kick it up a gear around 5K RPM so it can shift in time. Only thing I use it for is down shifting on the highway (5th to 4th or 3rd). Other than that I would rather just leave it in drive...
I use manual-matic shifting sometimes for ONLY shifting up to the next gear to save gas. If I drive on a road where the speed limit is 45, I'll go 47 and put the car in 5th gear. It helps it rev lower, the car doesn't bog down at that speed and as well it helps give some better MPG. The only downside is I drive roads with a 45 limit almost once in a blue moon. Here it's mostly 25, 30, 35, 50, 55, and 65!
I always drive in the "manual mode" unless I am on a long roadtrip. Most of the time I will let go of the acceleration just because I feel like i should since im switching gears (although it is an automatic and doesn't really matter at all...I don't think).
Mine doesn't shift out of auto either but like rptls08 I also have a type-s. I know my friend's 03 type-s would do that. Maybe because you have the 04 and they didn't change that yet in that year. Not really sure though.

FYI you should NEVER shift back down to first gear in Manual mode unless you are starting from a complete stop or are slowing down to a complete stop.
Only on mountain roads mostly where I want it to hold the gears my way. I also used it during breakin to alter the RPMs a bit more between gears 4 & 5 on the highway.
The tranny shifts pretty well so I keep it in D 99% of the time. Shifts are pretty crisp with Redline Type-F and the programming holds gears pretty long when you mash the gas too.
For those of you complaining about the auto 1-2 shift with an 04-06- there is a trick: MASH THE GAS PEDAL and don't let up- the car holds 1st gear in this case until you shift or let up on the gas.

I use it here and there, if i want to hold gears as well through the mountains... Or on the highway if someone is pissing me off, ill through it down a gear and wait in till i have a clearance to pass.. But once I show that im pissed off and they get out of my way I through it back to D.
The 04-06 will shift from first to second by itself! People complained and acura changed it with the 07-08 models so the driver has to shift from 1st to 2nd.

I rarely drive in M, i get lazy, feel like I'm causing damage so i switch back to D. Plus i don't have to remember to change gears -never learned how to drive manual. Auto FTW
My TL is a 6MT, but the 2010 TSX loaner car I'm driving today has an automatic with the steering-wheel paddles. I tried using them out of curiosity and wasn't terribly satisfied with the experience, mainly because I noticed that they do not afford a "true" manual-shifting experience in that the transmission will shift on its own if it sees fit to do so, such as when you're slowing down as you approach a red light. Do most manumatics do that? I've never owned an automatic-transmission car and so I don't have all that much experience with them. Quite frankly, I've always felt that if you want to shift it yourself you should get a conventional manual-shift.
I did find myself wondering whether the paddles, or the manumatic gate in cars with no paddles, give you better control than the automatic's kickdown function, but I haven't had any reason to test that out in the loaner car and I'm not sure I want to waste the gas finding out. Anyone have any thoughts on that? For me the kickdown is the thing I like the LEAST about driving an automatic when I have to do so because it's not something I'm used to experiencing when I drive a manual.

I use it about 30% of the time. Its very fun and definitely helps with the passing power. After being with the car I have learned when to shift. Also I do not lift off the gas pedal.
1st gear WOT - upshift at 35 mph, at 40 mph you will redline, and there is a small delay in upshifting so do it at 35
2nd gear WOT - upshift at 65 mph, at 70 you will redline
3rd gear WOT - i forgot where this redlines at pretty sure its 110 mph but i dont go around driving like that, so upshift at 105 mph

Lol i use it here and there too because i'm scarednof messing up the transmission for not shifting it correctly. And ya gas doesn't change much but i haven't experimented with it yet.
LOL i wish i got a type s 6MT. Stop rubbing it in.

Gotta love when I ask someone if their car is a stick and they reply with " yea bro its tiptronic" lol Noo
Ive tried the manual mode when I first got it and it can def help with gas mileage, but only if you really shift it early not if youre dragin the gears out. I mainly just throw her in D and go. I must say I really miss stick some days and other days love the auto ( in traffic) lol

Love my 06 TL, i regularly drive from Chicago to Minneapolis and use manumatic. It is great to pass traffic but also great to downshift to avoid horrible Wisconsin state patrol!! I like it, i get great gas mileage 32+. especially using 92 oct
the only issue is when the tranny shifts from 1st to 2nd for you...at first is sucked but if it is in 2nd in triptronic just punch the gas and it shifts for you then the rest is up to you. learned to like it. I used to have a straight manual car so it was tough at first.
