It takes at least a week for the paperwork to go through. Most dealers, if not all, can only order once a month from Acura, so if you bought yours the day after the orders went in, you have a long wait.

Then there is the production time and shipping time, probably about 2-3 weeks for popular combinations, but maybe longer for combinations which don't sell as much because they don't want to bother making just a few at a time.

Check with your dealer and he can answer all these questions and probably give you a better idea of when to expect the car.

Good luck with your waiting, it might seem like an eternity but your car will eventually arrive.

Jeez. the wait time has gone down to a couple weeks from 6-8 weeks, as it was when this car was first released. Enjoy your car in two weeks!

I ordered my car last weekend, and it won't be here until mid to late December. There are two ways for them to get you a car that isn't built yet.

The first is for cars that are already scheduled to be built. The dealer will have a computer printout of these cars, their options and when they are supposed to be shipped. If your order happens to match up with one of these cars, you will get one pretty soon.

The second is for cars with option combinations that are not already scheduled. These cars actually have to have a build order placed with the factory. One thing that apparently makes a big difference is the color you select. My dealer told me that the paint section on the assembly line is set up for a run of one color at a time. They produce a certain sized run of cars in that color, and then switch over the paint section to a new color. If your color is coming up in the rotation, your car can be built, painted and shipped more quickly. If your color comes up later in the rotation, it may take two months, like mine.

Good luck, and enjoy your TL when it arrives.

Some color/interior combos are a lot more popular, so its easier to locate.. Like Anthracite/Ebony.

Its even easier to locate 5ATs with that combo and Navi...

There are many variables in the car ordering process stream.

Did your dealer 'order' from exisiting inventory? Meaning was your selection a car that was already in the assembly pipeline? Or about to enter the assembly pipeline? That would be a lesser timeframe for delivery.

Or, was it a totally new order, that must make it through all the channels and eventually wind up on the assembly schedule? That would take longer.

The plant where the cars are built tries to group like featured cars into the assembly process (by color, drivetrain, etc) to avoid variations in assembly line. This makes the process more streamlined and cost effective. Maybe your order is being staged for this process? This would explain why a car 'ordered' after yours may actually be built before yours. More rare configurations tend to take longer so a grouping can be made for the production stream.

The best way to find out where your car is, is by the VIN. If you got a VIN # when you deposited, it is likely your car was already planned to be built, or already being built, thus a shorter delivery time. If you have no VIN assigned yet, your TL has not made it into the production planning stage, and will be longer.

This grouping of similar featured cars and how manufacturers streamline the assembly, and is one of the ways how the manufacturers keep costs down. Likewise it explain's Acura's philosophy in offering feature laden cars with very little options or packages (some of which are deferred for dealer installation).

Get the VIN and you should be able to reasonably track the production dates, transport dates, port of entry and ultimate arrival to dealer. This information should be available to a dealer, but likely will required repeated phone calls. Dealers like to estimate short to get the sale and estimate long for the delivery after the sale.

When I 'ordered' my TL in late January, the VIN was supplied as it was already a vehicle planned to be built about a week after I deposited. It took 17 days from the time it hit the assembly line (I believe they schedule a 3 day slot for TL assembly) to the time it was at the dealer. Even with all this tracking info, my car was at the port here for 3 days before the carrier got it to the dealer. It was a bit frustrating, but the dealer kept me posted.

Hope this paints a picture and removes some of the mystery!
