Question How high does the trunk lid jump?

In your TL, when you open the trunk, how high does the trunk lid come up by itself? I have no spoiler and it only comes up about half an inch to an inch. Because of that I usually get my hands dirty opening it all the way. My 03's lid would open at least 4-5 inches.

If it's supposed to come up a lot higher, I'd take it to the dealer to get the spring replaced. Please, post to let me know how high your trunk's lid comes up. Thanks.

My trunk only pops up a couple of inches so I too have to lift it manually to fully open the trunk.

Just about an inch or two. Better than the trunk release on my old car that used to fly and slam up when the wind caught it.

mattlana,

Agreed, my previous car had a habit of making the trunk fly open. I like that the TL doesn't do this.

2" for me too. Much better than previous. If it is raining you have time to get to the trunk and open it before the inside gets too wet. Nice feature.

If someone wanted the trunk to open further they could always install the "decklid spoiler" torque spring. Of course it wouldn't do any good if the spoiler was installed.......

You know what else is an interesting feature? Well, I'll tell you. The fact that you have to hold the trunk release button on the fob for about 2 seconds before the trunk releases.

One time, I was visiting my daughter's college with a trunk full of clothes. We went up to her room and a horrible thunderstorm popped up. After the storm, we went down to unload the car and to our horror, I must have inadvertently hit the trunk release while fumbling for my keys hours before. All of the luggage was saturated. Took going to a laundromat to get everything dried. Also lucky no one emptied the trunk!!

It only opens a few inches, which most people find preferable for some of the reasons already mentioned.

It pop-opens half foot and then goes back down.

My Dealer said that was normal... I now use the trunk net to keep it under control, kinda like a bungee cord...

Nah, for real, my trunk pops about 12-14" open - I measured it this morning.
