yes I agree, especially going through AZ, east of the state line and west of Phoenix. But going through CA, there are a lot of speed traps and the CHP also patrols by aircraft. My radar detector saved my ass on my way to Phoenix; after passing Indio on I-10 east you go up this big ass hill and then when you reach the top it's nothing but miles and miles of open stretch, but there are cops that sit on the side of the freeway pointing their radar guns out at you

Haven't gone the I10 route, but I used to drive up from Sierra Vista to Tempe Once a month, between Tucson and Casa Grand you could really open it up. Also went out to San Diego through Yuma, that was pretty bad, not much of anything out that way!!

Most owners who have tried report the top speed of their stock TL to be in excess of 150 MPH; usually averaging about 152 with a few saying 155.

The co-efficient of drag of a TL is .29 which is the same as a C5 Corvette. It is slick through the wind.

The Cd, the horsepower, the weight, and the gearing confirm these numbers. Acutually, in a vacuum, the TL's gearing would allow a top speed of over 200 MPH in top gear. But that's not going to happen in reality.

The tires are rated for sustained speeds of 165 MPH. Some magazines think there is a speed limiter. I haven't found one or been able to confirm that. The TL's speed is drag limited.

Mind you, the members here have commented that it takes a lot of road to reach those speeds as it comes on slowly over 130 MPH.

Personally, I have only seen 125 but that came up quicker than expected as I was dusting a BMW pulling away from the toll booths on the Florida Turnpike.

Thank's for the reply XP. Very knowledgeable.
I've only experienced about 90 or so, but the car is relatively new still. They just built some new toll roads here in Austin that are dead empty late at night so... we'll see.

157 mph (Stock), but with a very slight downgrade going up I-15 in San Diego County. So I don't think it has a limiter on it.

I'm a nut case and even in my 40's now I like to go fast. I commute 30 miles each way seven days a week... and usually go on average anywhere between 80 and 90 mph depending on traffic. I did hit 115 about a week ago... scared my wife to death. Here in IL just northwest of Chitown it's not that easy to go any faster...

hope no trooper is reading this right now... then I'll be sorry since I didn't get a ticket for the past 4-5 years.

its not that the car is slow from 130 to 150 but honestly its scary and your heart is pounding in a way that makes you feel that seconds last hours... i would suggest getting drunk whenever you are going to try this kind of stunt so you feel more relaxed and gutsy. taquila worked for me. 152mph, my buddy was sittin' shot gun wanted to kick my ass for pulling that stunt on the way home after the bar and the next day i felt like a complete asshole. havent driven that fast again. i dont want to die like a fool. do the right thing peeps. but yeah the TL is smooth at thoses speeds and the brakes will slow you down in a controlled manner.

I COMPLTELY agree, but I prefer to drink a bottle of jack Daniels, then take my 4 year old and pregnant wife with me. It's so much fun!
