How do you close the hood?

How do you close your hood on the TL?
I put it down slowly till it clicks onto the hinge and push it down.

either that or lower it to about 8 inches above lock and then let it drop. Either way - I try not to touch any part of the car so I probably drop it rather than push it - thats why I love that trunk handle thing no longer a need to touch my trunk deck to close it - my wife still puts her hand on her '02 TL trunk to close it - ARGH!!!!

Pop your trunk. Lift it all the way open. Now look at the underside...you have a little cut-out spot in the back side of your trunk so you can grab this with your fingers and shut the trunk as not to get you hands dirty on the outside of the trunk.

the owners manual says to put down slowly until it clicks on the hinge, then push it down, check it out. If you drop from too high, it may bend.

I had to have the dealer adjust the latch as it was not in proper alignement and the only way to close it was to drop the hood from about 1/2 way down

Yes, the manual says to lower then push it to close.

Friend of mine has a body shop, he has seen them bend if dropped from on high (not the new TL yet, but others).

Take it for what it is worth

What exactly is at risk of bending? The hood? or the latch?

I just worry if she isn't latch down tight (ie - pushing down by hand) then it may fly up in my face and that would be ugly.

I am fearful of messing up that brushed chrome - seems more sensitive than the '02 TL's front.

you should just find the sweet spot and drop it from there. i dont trust pushing myself. give it a nice little drop and it should be fine i would bet.

thousands and thousands of cars have that happen all the time with no problems.

Exclamation

Ok, here is another issue for some of early built 04TL. My engine hood cannot be closed properly without lifting it as high as your shoulder. That's my sweet spot... :o

As need4spd said above, I asked my stupid dealer to ajust the latch and alignment, but they just couldn't make it work like you guys do. I tried a couple of new 04TLs in the dealer lot, I have no problem to lift it from about 10"-15" way down, but not in my car...

Well, you could do it that way...or...you could press the voice command and say

HOOD, CLOSE

but it takes longer than the manual method.

Did I miss that. Is the method for closing the hood in the manual? Guess I'd better read it again.
