how do you brake?

When u guys approach a red light do you hit the breaks and hold it until you come to a stop or do you hit the breaks for a second and let go, hit it and let go, hit and let go... until u stop?

and when the light turns green, is it ok to go over 3 on the rev meter?

#1... *BRAKE*

#2... Does it really matter how you come to a stop? As long as you don't slam on them at every stop I think you'll be alright...

Is this a serious post?

You mean "brake"?

You hold down the brakes until the car stops. If you pumped it as you described, the guy from DMV (who sat next to you when giving you the test) should never have let you pass your license.

You can take the car to red line if you want. But if you maim or kill a few people along the way, be sure to own up to it.

You mean speed up when the light turns red then slam on the brakes to stop? jeez...

I personally try to anticipate green and red lights and try not to actually have to slow down/stop or even use the brakes at all. Maybe that's what you mean... hahaa...

time the lights is what I call it, it helps save a ton of gas too. If you have to brake for a red light, I usually let the car coast for a little then slowly get on the brakes and hold them. Then when I get to the light I usually put the car in neutral and let go of the brakes. This helps keep them from getting too hot in one area and then warping, spending 600+ dollars on warped brakes isn't good for the pocket...

also title fixed, its a simple error, it happens...

It's CSMEANCE the moderator to you Wall e .... LOL .. I normally take the foot off gas, coast, then step on the brake a bit .... if the light changes, then I'm off right away; if not, then I have to really step on the brake to a fully stop ....

Hope this helps ...

Sometimes i praise the people who speed to the red lights, puts something on the light sensor to trigger a green.

I always make sure to keep some distance from the car in front of me, never have to brake as hard, plus tailgaters are d-bags.

Sorry to be a jerk but we get threads like this all the time. Isn't the answer obvious? Really if you use logic about it, good sense will tell you what to do. Any driving input which is erratic just wastes gas and puts wear and tear on the car over time period. Be a smooth driver, your car, passengers and wallet will appreciate it. It makes for a comfortable trip as well. I guess I am getting old. The advice about timing the red lights is spot on, that is exactly what I do. Your overall speed is mantained efficiently, you save gas = Smart!

I don't drive like a jackrabbit at all, more like a grandma to preserve my precious ride. My driving is kinda as if I was balancing a champagne glass on the hood. I hate traffic so that's when you see me weave a lil crazy and my passengers get nervous but otherwise I cruise. Also once in awhile I will let er rip on an open road by myself to sharpen my driving skills/hunger but that's it. 90% of the time I am smooth.

Usually when approaching an intersection with a red light...I accelerate as fast as I can in the allotted distance to the intersection...turn the wheel as hard to the left as you can while simultaniously pulling the E-Brake. Thats the "electonic" brake...it works better than that pedal thingy by your feet. Try it. You can thank me later.

Since I can't use my feet like I used to in my old Chevy Rox 1 convertible, I use the fancy brake pedal they put in cars nowadays. Since then my calsous' are much better and I can wear shoes now.

But seriously, I just brake at the light as I see it. Sometimes smooth and steady, other times on and off. It just depends on the traffice, distance, when the light turns red, etc.

Quick tutorial on braking for people who don't know how. Here is a trick I use and it works everytime. When approaching traffic or a light I ease off off the gas and GENTLYapply pressure to the brakes don't pump it that defeats the purpose of having abs. If you follow these simple steps you can't go wrong. If that doesn't work you can try and just slam on the brakes your car will definetaly stop.

If anybody else needs quick minute tips I will teach you guys to do donuts while going backwards while ghostriding your whip. :P

If your engine is cold (which you can determine by looking at the temperature gauge in your instrument pod, then it's better not to rev excessively unless you have no choice.

If your engine is warm, then the question is how much you want to spend on gas.

If i can see a red light or stop sign ahead, i ease onto the brakes almost immediately (granted nobody is driving up my ass) so as not to slam my brakes later on and try to come to a nice easy stop. the way i see it, that is best for the car and the brakes. someone please correct me if i am wrong

thx, i just find myself running yellow lights to save my brakes, i have to stop doing that cuz some intersections are "photo enforced" like i run the yellow light cuz im goin too fast that if i did stop id pass the crosswalk and id have to back up to get behind the stop line. and whats realli scary is when i do run a yellow light, theres another car doin it to right behind me. so its like that guys pushing his luck more than i am.

brakes are cheap..saving your brakes...what kinda ish is that? brakes are cheaper than a red light ticket with increased insurance...and if you're goin too fast to safely use your brakes..than maybe you should slow down there speed racer...before you get somebody killed...
