How do the back up sensors work?
Do they beep faster when an object comes nearer or a vibration to the steering wheel or what?

Typical in-car back up sensor system will start beeping slowly if you are close to an object and as you get closer the faster it will beep. If you think of it, backup sensors are like radar detectors. It transmits ultrasonic signals from the back of the car (typically there are like 4 sensors). When the signal gets bounced back from an object nearby, that is when the alarm will start sounding. Back up sensors are only activated when you are in reverse mode.

I have the back up sensors. It does beep faster and faster the closer you get. Although once it flatlines, you are less than an inch from whatever you are about to hit. Oh if your radio is up loud. dont even think about trying to hear the beeps.

I have a feeling this sensor on TL is not very integrated with rest of TL. it would be nice if we get camera in next gen TL with computer that calculates how far to the object and display it on screen

For the price that Acura is asking for this option, I would select another technology base on Microwave(Radar) instead of the Ultrasound system that these are based on.
Ultrasound based sensor are prone to dirt, ice, snow that will render them
inoperative. see this link http://www.rostra.com/RearSentry.htm
Microwave is not affected by dirt, snow or ice and can also be installed totally hidden behind the bumper cover.
For Microwave based system look at Rostra System http://www.rostra.com/rostra-obstacle.htm
or Guardian Alert at http://guardianalert.com/index.html (I have the 1500 model that I used on my 2000 & 2003 Odyssey and it worked great).
Both Microwave base system can be purchased for around $300USD plus installation.
Best regards

Whichever type, I have decided they are well worth the cost even if they look a little strange. I haven't seen them on a black TL- maybe not too visible.
But, I backed up without thinking (or looking) in my driveway and bumped the tire of my Jeep. I put a little dent in my rear bumper cover from the wheel weight. It is the only blemish my car has and it drives me nuts.
A new bumper cover is about $260 at a discount and it needs to be painted which is another couple hundred.
At $300 something, the rear sensors would have been cheaper.
Complicating matters was the damned side mirror that tilts down when you back up. I had a good view of my rear tire but couldn't see a big Jeep Wrangler lurking back there.
