How do the Auto-Off Headlights Work

i am kind of embarassed to ask something like this...especially because ive had my TL for almost a year now....and ive been on this forum for for the same amount of time and racked up 1k+ posts and a bunch of knowledge. I searched and couldn't find out and this is just a very retarded question. but how do the Automatic-off headlights work? i looked in the manual and coudln't figure it out...i set the MID settings to 15 seconds i think that was the one available. and i leave the lights on, i turn off the car...get out...close the door....stand there for 5 minutes like a fool, and still can't figure out how to set it up right. can someone please explain a step by step process of how to use this?

you might have set it up wrong on the MID. I always just turn mine off (just out of habit) when I get out of the car. Are you locking the car when you get out? or just standing there waiting?

I don't believe there's a setting in the MID for the headlights, I think the setting in the MID is just for the interior lights, I usually turn my lights off but when I forget the car does it for me (happened twice), I dont know how long it took but I don't believe there's a setting for this.

If you hit the lock button twice on the keyfob it will turn off the lights.

I don't know the answer to your question but, this is what I do. I have been doing this almost since I got the car. Even in the daytime. I just hit the button twice and it locks the doors and kills the lights.

Most of the time I turn it off the lights before I get out but, not all the time.

Lightbulb

It is in the MID...

Page through the Keyless Settings...to Auto Off Lights. Select 0, 15, 30 secs etc. I believe it is linked to each remote, so it will vary by with driver / remote is detected.

You always leave your lights on (with the column stalk). When you turn the car off the headlights should go out automatically in # secs selected on the MID. This works if you use the remote to lock, or just walk away.

Also, when you approach the car and unlock with the remote, the lights turn on. If you do not turn on the ignition before the timer setting * mine is 15 secs), the lights will go off again, but back on when you turn on the ignition.

If you hit the lock button on the remote once, it follows the auto off setting on the MID (if you have it set).

If you hit the lock button twice on the remote, you override the MID setting and shut the lights off immediately.

Time for the Manual.

isnt it bad for the hid system to be turning on and off like that within just a few seconds of each other?

i know my friends leaves his lights on all the time in his tsx....

he unlocks it and it turns on and when u open the door it turns off and when u start the car it turns back on

its not neccessarily TERRIBLE but it will shorten the life of the lights.....it wouldn't be constantly turning on and off...i think i would just use this at night when i turn the lights on and go somewhere and then let the lights do the automatic thing....thanks for all your help guys...i feel whole again..lol

Okay, I understand how to set the automatic off feature and it works great, but I have noticed that if you have the headlights on during the day, it significantly decreases the dash and NAVI visibility. Is there a way to override that so you have full brightness with headlights on?

Hmm... am I the only person that thinks After Ignition is turned off, openning the door, then closing the door turns off the headlight when auto-headlight-turn-off is enabled???
Mine turns off when I get off the car and close the door (I set the timer to 0).

I don't like keeping my HID on all day long, so I usually keep it off during the day time.

i would much rather just have an auto headlight function...every other car seems to have that. so this doesnt go off topic, i just set the mid to 0 and they go off when i close my door
