How close is actual MPG compared to sticker.

Acura TL web page:

EPA Estimated Fuel Mileage* (city/highway)
20/30 mpg - Manual Transmission
20/28 mpg - Automatic Transmission

Fuel Tank Capacity
17.0 U.S. gallons (64.7 liters)

Recommended Fuel
Premium unleaded 91 octane

Alot of people are reporting getting only 14mpg on this site. hell my jeep grand cherokee gets 15.5.

It depends on your driving. The sticker estimate is based on an "average" driving cycle. If you drive in NYC all the time, you might get 12-13, and if you drive on the highway all the time you might get 27-30. Under what conditions do you do most of your driving?

My 6MT with only 3k miles on it is giving me about 24MPG in mixed driving.
I've reset the computer in the past and done a couple miles of "garandpa style" highway driving and gotten 28MPG. And I've reset it and done a couple miles of not shifting until redline and keeping it at 3rd gear while cruising and gotten 16MPG.... these where the numbers the computer gave me so you choose to believe them or not.

Considering most of my driving is actually city (including lots of stop and go freeway driving) and I have been consistently getting 20 miles to the gallon and on my last road trip I averaged about 27-28 MPG, I'd say it's pretty close.

i drive highway most the weekday for work and get about 24mpg. then on the weekends when i drive in the city its down to like 14-16mpg. my average comes out to be about 22(because most of the driving is highway). so the sticker is pretty acurate.

IMO, my 04TL gives me better MPG in the highway. 26-32 is better than official estimated MPG.

However, in city, my MPG as ppl addressed above, 16-19, it is worse, but this all depends on where you are and how you drive.

It's pretty close with my 6MT. I get 24-25 mixed city and freeway driving.

Pretty close for me too. Never seen less than 24 in mixed driving with highs up around 29-31 for long highway stretches. The mileage you get really depends on your individual driving style. I wouldn't characterize it as "alot" of people here getting a lot less than that. Yes, there are some, but there are lots of others getting much much better gas mileage. Personally, I'm very happy with the mileage I'm getting (my last car was a Jeep Grand Cherokee as well).

Believe the MID, they are very accurate.

I have over 8000 miles on my car, and I check it consistently everytime I fill up by calculating the distance travelled and the amount of gas filled.

if I cruise control 55MPH = 34MPG
70MPH = 30MPG
85MPH = 26MPG

mixed driving of city and highway gets around 23MPG

I have about 3200 miles on mine (Automatic) and get only 15-17 combined city and some highway in SF Bay Area. I am disappointed it isn't closer to 20+. Does this have to do with using A/C on temp control?

Mine seems to be pretty close. Almost ALL of my driving is "in town" and I've been getting between 17-19...so not too far off.

My experience mimics jtruman's very closely, although in mixed driving I do 24-26. Keeping the car at a constant 60 mph is nearly impossible in my experience, however.

The recent (JUNE '04) consumer reports ranks the TL as the best in its class as far as gas mileage.

6MT, getting 18 in city, 26 in daily commuting (mostly rural), have seen 30 for brief periods on the interstate while babying it, no more than 75mph.

I get about 24 on my way to work (mostly highway) but I get killed in the city (DC) from all the lights, choppy traffic ( 15-16).

I've been holding at 23 with a MT-6. Mostly rural driving but some traffic jams.

I have just under 1,000 miles and my average has been 21mpg with mostly city driving for the first 3 tankfuls. When on the freeway, I consistently see 30 to 34 on the MID if I stay between 60 and 75 (So Cal freeways). I did one run up into the mountains and set cruise on the downhill run at 72...MID went to >50mpg and stayed there for 6 miles! total of round trip was 104 miles and avg mpg for trip was 34mpg.

ha ha, i know what you mean about keeping 60MPH constantly! When I did the experiment, I was on highway 5 going from SF to LA. I cruised at 55MPH for about 5 miles, and even the slow truckers were passing me! Then, 10 minutes later, I flew by them going 100MPH... by the way, at 100MPH (drove for 5 miles) I got around 23MPG

I reset the computer once while on the highway at about 75 MPH. I then just continued that speed going as easy as I could on the accelerator. In the first few miles the computer reported my MPG as 41, then 38, then 35 and finally settled in at about 32. Then I took the car up over a 100MPH at WOT. The MPG quickly dropped to about 25MPG. The car gets very good gas mileage when you take it easy. I think 30MPG over a 100 mile trip at 75 MPH is feasible.

I am getting 26-27 in mixed driving with the 6MT. Most of my highway driving is around 75 mph indicated. This seems very good for a car with only 800 miles on it.
