How to Clean AC Ducting

Hey all - I've begun to notice a distinct funk when I turn my air conditioning on. Before you all ostracize me for not using the Search function, I have read the many threads regarding replacing the cabin filter - but surprisingly, none of them talk about how to clean the ducting (i.e., where the mildew, pollen and other such mutated crap live); other than spraying some Lysol somewhere, somehow. What's the point of replacing the cabin filter if the ducts are still all full of mildew and stuff? How is one supposed to clean inside the ducts?

I was thinking of using a can of compressed air (the kind you use to clean your electronics) and "spraying" that. I think it might also be worthwhile to use a disinfectant, like Lysol or something of that ilk. That said, how/where would I spray it? Some threads allude to accessing the ducts from the outside, i.e., by raising the hood and spraying into the mesh intake moudling right by the windshield.

Any advice would be much appreciated. Cheers.

you and me both I could never find a good solution. The smell has absolutely nothing to do with the cabin filter and I never had any luck with lysol. I was thinking about trying something like this

Frigi-Clean also seems like a popular one

then to maintain the freshness turn the a/c off 2-3 block before you get home.

One way to avoid all this hassle in the first place is to turn off your AC and switch to fresh air/vent for 5 minutes before you turn the car off and let it blow all the condensation out. Just turn a/c off 5 minutes before you reach your destination.

If you leave the a/c on up until you turn the car off that water's just gonna stay in the system and turn into mold/mildew.

Also use the fresh air mode if possible. I realized how quickly the air inside can get mucky without a/c and recirc on..esp with a car full of people.

My acura is pushing 7 years old and the air coming out of it smells fine. Same with my '93 integra.

The thing is that I rarely ever use the AC. I live in Victoria, BC and for those of you that have ever spent any time on Canada's west coast, our summers here are perfect - high 70s, ocean breeze and ZERO humidity. As you can expect, I need to turn the AC on maybe 5-10 times per year (usually when the dog is in the car). Once the interior has cooled down, it is very comfortable with the windows rolled down. So it is usually off long before we turn the car off.

I'm kind of scared to drill a hole in the evaporator case, but I may just have to screw up the courage to do so. I can't believe that it has to come to this, just to keep the car from smelling like ass!

It has to be a bad design with the TL, like your Integra my 95 Acura Legend has NEVER had a problem with this and I never take precautions like turning the AC off 5 minutes before or anything of this nature.
