IMHO most of the people I know that lease and have no intention of buying the vehicle treat them like a rental. But some people respect what they own even if it's temporary.
To the OP, how would you even guage the performance gain if you removed the filter?

try it and let everyone know what happens. what gas mileage you were able to get, HP you able to obtain. dyno chart would be nice.
also, let us know how much the new engine cost you.

I honestly think that if he REALLY wants to do it, one or two days will not raise high concerns....assuming he will run on clean roads.....I just don't see a point to this....
Saving a few bucks at the pump monthly...then spend a few hundreds a month repairing the irreversible damage?
Try to add some sugar or sand to your gas, maybe it will improve the burn and provide better mpg for your car? (joke...don't do it!)
