Horrible gas mileage
Gas mileage after the first 600 miles, HORRIBLE, I expected lower than estimated during break-in but 250 miles out of a full tank (yep, it was very full) is disgusting.
Does it get much better? I use Shell Premium or BP Premium, in 600 miles I'm on my third tank. Yeah yeah I know I got into a few small blasts but this last tank I've been gentle and it still stinks.
What do you guys average?

I just came home to make the exact same post. I have 550 miles. Only getting 275 miles on a full tank. Compared to 370 on a full tank in my Maxima, I'm not too happy. However, i will admit, I am getting 22 mpg which isn't bad for break in. I'm just disappointed on how often I am filling up!

Anyway, I have about 900 on my TL and with the first tank like yours I was lucky to get 20-21 MPG. My second tank was about 24 MPG. My current tank / average mileage is reading 27 MPG and is about 75% highway at 70-80 MPH. Hopefully yours will improve in the near future.

Couple of points.
1. 20mpg really isn't bad for city driving. If you were doing long distance it would be a different story.
2. The tank holds ~17gal, but is "empty" with 14gal gone.
You really can do over 300 miles on one tank with city driving, the only real problem is that "empty" comes too soon.

never stops!
Not bad
When I bought the TL it gave me 22 miles/gal. Now (4 weeks) it has improved to 24. Last fill was exactly 14 gal and had reset the trip couter when at 338 miles. I drive in the bay area on 580 and 680 lot of stop and go traffic. I'd like to take it on highway driving sometime just to see the mileage.

If you want good milage buy an Insight that is not the purpose of this car or any in its category. BTW, it does offer the best milage in its category, furthermore on the highway it has a cruising range around 400 miles.

I cannot seem to get above 18.5 MPG. My last fill-up was 17.9. Sure hope this gets better. I just hit 1000 miles yesterday and I've ot a AT.
I drive 70% city and 30% highway.
I'm beginning to miss my 530i.

Try 185 miles till 1/4 tank
Ok, I must be getting the worst city milage, today I looked at the trip computer and it showed 14MPG, yes, it is 3/4 city, but it has only gotten worse, It used to be 16MPG. This with a light to moderate foot.
I will admitt that I get 28 - 30 when ONLY on the hwy.
I am not complaining, but it is poor with 2,500 miles, has not gotten better.

TL-SHAWD 6MT Rocks!
33 mpg on a long trip to florida and back (1200 miles)
I now have 6250 miles, free oil change performed at the dealer.
(got a special coupon for free oil changes...)
it gets better after break-in... need to learn when to accelerate and when not.

I took my new MT6 on a 550 mile trip Saturday. It only had 60 miles on the odometer when I started. Granted it was mostly Interstate driving at 75-80 but I got 27 mpg. No complaints from me.

Good Gas Mileage
What the hell is that. I have a 5AT that I drive in SS mode all the time. I just can't halp myself. The car revs so smoothly and accelerates so well that good gas mileage, although attainable, is just not in the cards. It's just not.

I get 18-19 mpg in an all-suburban daily commute with lousy Chicago-area winter gas. I'm pretty happy with that; I was getting 17mpg under the same conditions in my previous car, which was 500 lbs. lighter, had a 2.5L engine, and a manual transmission.

Hopefully it will get MUCH better after my break-in period. I should be able to complain about 16mpg, wouldn't you agree?

Did you break the car in, or just start driving it "normally"?
3 cars ago, I neglected to do the break-in and got terrible gas mileage for the 3-year life of the lease. It never even made the EPA estimates. After that, my cars were carefully broken in for 1000 miles and I got more than the EPA numbers.
I don't care what others say - breaking a car in carefully is CHEAP insurance and can save a LOT of cost in the long run.

I'm breaking this car in the same way I've broken every new car I've ever owned. Break it in like your going to drive it, not the first day of course, the first few long drives were varied speeds and no full throttle, but after about 200 miles I believe this is more than enough to show the car what it's going to be like once in awhile.
There is nothing out there proving this is the wrong way to go, my last 5.0 went 200k and I beat that engine to within an inch of it's life the first week of ownership. It always performed better than spec and got better MPG than EPA.
I'm not going to wussy this car, I'm also not going to drive it like I drove my Mustang's or my Mark VIII when I had it which got 32mpg on the highway, MUCH better than EPA and it lived a life at the drag strip on weekends.
My partner's '03 E320 gets much worse than EPA and he follows the rules like nobody you've ever seen.
The big reason I'm getting about 16mpg is crappy winter blend gas as people have mentioned and cold weather making more HP and less MPG.
I'm going to be patient and see how it goes. I in no way plan on abusing the car, no way, but no way I'm going to baby it either.

Another factor with the cold is the fluids are thicker (esp. trans fluid, whether auto or manual) which results in higher driveline losses. If you have a short commute, like I do, on really cold days these components may never reach full operating temperature.

Mike,
Agreed, my commute is about 25 miles, mostly stop and go and while I think they reach full temp (as much as it can when it's 4 degrees) the air is much more dense which doesn't help unless you don't mind enjoying a few extra horses of course.

I try not to jump on the car too much when it's cold. Rubber parts just don't have the flex and resilience in the super freezy stuff that they do in warmer weather.
My favorite seasons for jumping on the car are Spring and Autumn, when it's just cool enough to get some extra horses but not so cold that things are creaking and groaning.

None of you guys are trying the "regular fuel" thing are you?
Norse, DTrose and LED Master - You guys ARE using premium, right? Only thing I could see is a lower grade fuel causing MPG loss. The article said you could use lower grades but fuel economy would be worse and therefore the costr savings obtained at the pump would come back to bite you in fuel economy. Go back to premium and see where that gets you!

Hopefully it will get MUCH better after my break-in period. I should be able to complain about 16mpg, wouldn't you agree?

It will run better.... after 1k miles, I get 13-17 MPG in this crowded/bumpy city, but get 23-32 MPG in highway... my full tank can run over 400 miles in highway... This is pretty good than my old cars...

I've got 5,000 miles on mine, getting around 19 mpg average and considering how hard I push the car, I'm satisfied.
BTW, I drove to Phoenix from LA today (400 miles) and averaged 27 mpg for the trip, average speed was 78 mph. Vibration was steady and annoying at cruising speeds around 80 mph, but it went away on certain parts of I-10 where the road had been repaved. By and large, the vibration detracted from my enjoyment of the trip.
Getting back to your mileage concern, you probably realize this already, but you need to look at your average mph, because that will help explain lower mileage on certain fill-ups.

I'm not going to think about it for awhile, drive the car easy for another tank full and see how it goes. Winter blend gas in Chicago stinks so I need to wait I guess before whining.

19 mpg 95% in city/country roads, 25mpg 95% highway. 2700K miles. Was getting 2-3 mpg more before this new england chill set in. Sure beats my 2000 maxima which would be doing 16/23 right about now.

One thing to keep in mind with my city MPG is that S. Florida is very spread out compared to congested places like NYC or the like. I'm very happy with my MPG considering my SUV gets 9 city, 11 highway, and my Vette doesn't do a whole lot better when I get on it
