That's what you get with a car that'll pass anything on the road except a gas station! :p

Norse, I found my mileage improved when I switched from the Amoco premium to Mobil premium.
Really, hmmmmm ok I'll give that a try this afternoon.

Just took a road trip from SC to NC and had a good chance to check mileage under somewhat controlled conditions. The tank up was 32 mpg running between 60 and 70. In Durham for two days, I got 20 mpg in stop and go, round town stuff. Return at average of 70 MPH, was 30 MPG. All tanks were topped off the same way, Amoco 93 Ultimate, and calculated from actual miles and gallons. The trip computer was dead on - within 1 mpg. I drove conservatively or with the cruise most of the time, occasionally punching it to enter a ramp or to pass. Car is at about 2200 miles, 6MT, vin 17XXX. It looks like the EPA numbers are right on - if you don't overuse the right foot. As they say in the discalimer "Your mileage may vary"

Glad to hear that you guys are using the right octane. Makes the disscussion clear. BTW - What is "winter blend" fuel. I've never heard of it around here. Does it have something in it to reduce freeze ups? When does gasoline freeze anyway (I assume it does at some point).

Winter blend fuel is mandated on certain large metropolitan areas during the winter by the EPA in an attempt to reduce smog. I think it's basically an additional 10% alcohol blend.

I have about 1100 miles now and I get only 21 MPG on mostly highway driving, very limited city driving.

Yesterday I drove 100 miles (two separate trips) up and down the 880 which is pretty flat and still only got 21. I have no idea why.

Lore, did you reset while you were on the screen where it displays mpg and mph. I think if you do then it changes otherwise the displayed one if from the last reset and probably an average since you bought the car.

Hope this helps.

Same with you Lore, I have been getting around the low 20's for the MPG read out.

I'm spending a few minutes warming up the engine in the morning starts. Pretty cold up on the Berkeley hills (at least for California standards).

Reset the Trip Computer every fill-up.

If I drive easy, I can get 26 mpg in "suburban" driving (i.e. not city, not highway - why don't they include this in the mpg estimates??) or I can drive as aggressively as the traffic allows & get 20 mpg.

Try resetting the trip computer once and see if your mileage doesn't get alot better. The computer records from day 1 and never resets unless you do it yourself. Reset it and see what you get then for an average. Just MHO

Ok, I must be getting the worst city milage, today I looked at the trip computer and it showed 14MPG, yes, it is 3/4 city, but it has only gotten worse, It used to be 16MPG. This with a light to moderate foot.

I will admitt that I get 28 - 30 when ONLY on the hwy.

I am not complaining, but it is poor with 2,500 miles, has not gotten better.
Ok, you make me feel better because I thought I was getting the worst mileage. I have about 75% city driving and I probably get on average 17-18 mpg. On my last trip to Houston and back to Dallas (about 275 miles each way at 70-75 mph) I averaged about 32-34 mpg - go figure.

Ok, tonight I'm filling up with Mobile per Mike's suggestion, I'll do the math when I get home and post it here. Last tank was 16.4mpg, I can only go up!

One point I forgot to make previously that someone else mentioned so now I feel like warming up the car :banghead: I forgot about that! Argggh that explains a lot....

Hey, I got 13-19 all the time in the city... I have no complaint 'cause this car can provide me 23-32 in the highway.
