Hood Insulator.....?

Yesterday I open my hood to find half of the insulator torn and hanging off the hood. I also found the pieces dropped in the bottom of the engine bay. I went head a ripped the rest from the hood. I priced a new one, and they cost $90. My question is can I survive without it damaging my paint on the hood from heat? Do I need to replace the insulator? Thanks for your help!

Without the hood liner the paint on the hood, would most likely start to blister from the engine heat. It probably wouldn't do it right away but it does help to prevent it from occurring. In fact, several manufactures don't even use a liner. Most likely you will just notice some increased engine noise.

The same thing happened to me while I was under warranty. I had them replace it with a new black one. Apparently, the '04 TL had a liner that didn't fit very well, so Acura redesigned it with a better fitting one.

How long is a long time? Not sure how the weather has been for you. If it's still cool, then you might not have a problem.

I was wondering if someone has gone at least a year or so without it. Anyone???

No liner for over a year and a half no blistering.

If you are worried about it put some heat resistant paint on the bottom of the hood. Cheaper than 90$ cardboard.
