HID's

My HIDs went out and its not the bulb. im assuming its the igniter but igniters are expensive.

so i was wondering if i could just buy an HID kit from ddmtuning and just replace the entire thing.

which kit would i buy? the D2S one? has anyone else done this? or did you guys just buy a new igniter?

^^^which HID are you talking about? Headlight?

if so then I would just buy OEM or from Theretrofitsource.com since they sell Denso, Matsushita and Morimoto which all used by OEM Japanese car and the expectancy life on these thing should be 5 years or more (same as OEM ballast).

Please stay away from that DDM crap the thing already broken once it came in the mail and take two weeks to shipped from China.

You need to get the D2S ballast. OEM cost around $360 for ballast and igniter shipped from Delray Acura, I would recommend you to test to see if its a bad ballast or igniter before ordering, best of luck to you

or you can go on ebay and buy used parts for less than half of the price.

Maybe it's a good time to look into upgrading to 55w ballast.

I've seen a pair of 75W ballasts installed in TL's before and they were insanely bright. I couldn't imagine 100W. I would sure hope they are adjustable. I wouldn't think the projectors would be able to handle that heat.

Just curious OP, before your headlights went out what color did they project. I feel that mine are due for new bulbs and possible igniter. I have seen countless TLs that had a very small hint of blue hue compared to mine that seem to have shifted to white.

I am being lazy to look up threads on the symptoms of the headlight bulbs going out or ignitors or ballasts. I can agree that college tuition is expensive and most of my returned leftover cash paid for books, rent and parking permit.

Well from inside the car it looks white with out any kind of hint of blue. But I will look at them tonight and double check to make sure. But since my bulbs are close to 7yrs. old I think they are looking a little pink/whiteish.

My eye sight is a bit bad as far as partially color blind so in fact i will see it as white but it might be pink. I will get a second opinion on color.

How do you check to see if its the ballast or the ignitor. My passenger side HID won't come on unless I click on and off about 50 times...and finally it will light and stay lit until I shut the car down. Then if I want it to come back on I do the same thing. The light is still a bright color (no purple in it) so I know the bulb is good. I just don't know if its the ignitor or the ballast or both. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You swap a good igniter or inverter over. One by one. Like from one side to another but be warned, you can short out the equipment this way.

If there's a way to make Morimoto ballasts from TRS work I'd go that route, I had their 50 watt ballasts in a retrofit I did and the rocked, I'm sure it's way cheaper than stock too, but I don't know what wiring you would have to do to make non-stock ballasts work.

if the morimotos are already d2s, you'd just need a hid kit harness to get power from the battery
http://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/HI...Wiring-Harness

if not d2s already you'd need the AMP to D2S connectors aswell

Yeah, I had D2S Morimotos, but I was using them on a vehicle that had factory 9006 so it plugged right in. I just don't know what kind of connector there is going to the factory ballast on our cars, never had a reason to look at it so I don't know if you'd have to splice something get a signal to it. No need for a relay with 35 watt ballasts but for more wattage definately go from the battery.
