It's recommended, going without one could potentially burn out your factory bulb connectors.

I installed ddm tuning HID fogs without the harness...both bulbs stopped working about a month later.

I am hoping that adding a harness will fix the issue...and that I didn't fry anything. anybody have any thoughts? sorry for semi thread jack OP...like everyone else said, I'd install one.

DDM even said that if you ran more than one HID application then the harness is recommend. Just buy it, only for $15 extra you won't have to worry about to burn any connection or wiring.

Even tho HIDs are 35 watts, that is after they warm up and settle. When you first ignite HIDs they can draw 100watts. That's why you need a relay.

Check the grounding on your ballasts. A bad ground can take out your ballast, especially if it's a cheap ballast. I haven't seen this problem, but back in the day, I heard about this problem all the time with HID kits. And yes, I have heard that when you don't use a proper harness, the OEM harnass doesn't supply enough current for the ballast, causing it to fail prematurely... (Sort of like a brown-out condition) AGain, I haven't seen this personally, but heard a lot about it. Haven't really heard of any problems with folks that used a harness tho, with the exception of the bad ground.
