HID Questions

So I was looking at videos of HID's and I read some comments that said that they were illegal because light spreads and the glare blinds oncoming traffic.

And that most sold online suck and have this issue.

I googled it and it seems to be true in some cases. But I was wondering if it would still glare if installed in a 04 TL, cuz it seems like there is a cut off point where the lights won't shine above a certain point.

There seems to be an issue with the blue color being illegal too. I was thinking of going 5000k or 6000k anyway so I don't think that would be an issue.

Anyone wanna chime in?

Thx

the car comes with HID lights already
aftermarket housings may have bad reflecting properties and bother other drivers
4300 is stock light color- 5000 or 6000 is fine, anything higher is purple and you cant see the road
Wont have any legal problem with 5 or 6k

As 01tl4tl said, the 3G TL comes standard with HID headlamps. They are bi-level, which means the car had no low beam or high beam lamps. The "cutoff point" you mentioned is caused by the damper, or flap, which serves to give the effect of low and high beam lamps. But the lamps themselves are not low or high beam at all.

Also, I think the kelvin temperature is around 4300 to 4600 degrees - someone correct me if this is wrong.

So I looked up the size of the bulbs for TL's HID's and there D2S.

I should be able to just buy 6000k bulbs of this size and install them...Right?

This is what I found. Don't know if there the right wattage tho.

I would strongly advise you not to go so high in temperature. You are going to loose lighting quality and visibility and this will be especially noticeable in the rain. Give this some serious thought before you commit to doing it.

From what i have gathered so far you shouldnt start loosing brightness until you 8000k.
The reason i want to go to 6000k is cuz its still white with a tiny bit of blue and this will match my Audi style LED's better.

The stock 4300k looks yellowish next to these.

Does anyone think i will lose any brightness at 5k or 6k.

Thx

You'll be plenty bright at 6K. Its a very popular choice for most because it's still very bright and has no yellow.

I currently have Kaixen 6500k bulbs in mine and I wished I stayed with the stock 4300k. They do look nice tho but they suck on rain. I'm planning to switch them back to the stock bulbs and also go with the 3000k HID on the fog housing.
