Hey Y'all (Introduction)-'08 TL With QUAD HID HEADLIGHTS - PICTURES
Hey y'all. Happy to be here - Been following you guys since 07 when I got my 02 TL; easily the largest group of helpful and mature individuals.
I myself am in the Navy and am currently stationed out of Barre, Vermont for recruiting....though I'm originally from Raleigh, NC. I'm the only black dude up here...and the only one with a nice Acura, lol.
Currently, I'm pushing a 2008 Acura TL and much enjoy it. Best car I've ever had and will probably be keeping till I get out the Navy in 2014. Also, I want to confirm this: Am I the ONLY one who's ventured out and got retrofitted QUAD HID headlights with my TL? (Yesss...yess....pictures to come)

Hey y'all. I'm new here. I did just join, however; been rollin' Acura's since 07. I'm posting my current setup but more imporantly, my custom headlights.
Now I'm sure there's been a few out there who've probably thought about what QUADs would look like in an Acura TL of our generation. I'll tell you....they give the car an INSANELY aggressive and DIFFERENT look. You can see for yourself in the following pictures.......On a sidenote, the work was done by Bjorn from CustomLightz. All praise and thanks goes to him...(And God of course).

And for reference of what a STOCK TL looks like:

Sorry for the double post but I will have images of the amazingly sharp and bright cutoff for nighttime driving soon.

Looks good but for pics you're going to want to size them to 800x600 and then take the direct link and click the little yellow mountain icon to post them here. Looking forward to more pics!

Here's what was actually done to them:
-Main lowbeam was switched out for a better S2000 projector, 6k, clear lens swap. Offers an INSANELY BRIGHT AND WIDE color output and cutoff. Everyone thinks I have my highbeams on all the time.....
-The highbeam area was retrofitted with a Mini projector, also 6k but has a "greenish" hue due to the dynamics of the projector. This projector also performs as the highbeam as well.
-Switchback LED's in the sides.

Clean retrofit, it looks like it came like that from the factory.
S2000 projectors are awesome, I had them in one of my retrofits. I'd personally drop the 6k bulbs and go with 5k CBI or Philip 4300k bulbs with 55w ballast, but that's just me.
Here is a picture of my S2K AP1 retrofit with Philip DL50 bulbs and 55w ballast

There are some other black dudes here on AZ, but they all have regular names. I guess we just aren't like Vermont...
Oh, and we immature ones are usually in the Ramblings section.

Well, welcome to AZ and thanks for your service.
Welcome and it looks great!
I would be concerned about the low beams being too bright. It's not worth the risk of causing an accident (or being invovled in it) by blinding an oncoming driver. I would get the low beam brightness back to the TL stock level, which is pretty bright to start with. No problem with the high beams as long as they get turned off with oncoming traffic.

s2k projectors arent any "brighter" than tl projectors, I've compared them side by side before. yes they are wider but give a bit more color, but you shouldnt be blinding anyone, that defeats the purpose of having projectors. clean retrofit though, i've thought about putting morimotos in my high beams but I wanted the look of DRL's in daytime
Interesting, but honestly I don't see the point of switching out a bi-xenon projector for separate high/low projectors (not to mention losing your DRLs in the process). The stock bi-xenon projectors do an excellent job IMO, so it seems like an awful lot of money to spend fixing something that isn't broken.
Still an interesting concept though.

You seem to bash people a lot for modding their cars.....

The way I see it is, we all spend money on different things that may not seem like a good idea to others, doesn't mean you should bash it. I don't think his projectors are actually blinding people unless they are aimed incorrectly which is easily fixable. Just as long as his mini projector isn't on at all times and blinding people.
Looks awesome SBD! And yeah the quad has been done before on our cars.

From one black dude to another, welcome to the forums! Feel free to check out the New England regional section and come out for some meets. We have some good stuff (i.e. cars and food) lined up for June if you're around
I'm just a bit baffled. Most people get retrofits to replace their crappy halogen headlights with HID projectors, which offer a huge functional improvement. I've never seen anyone spend the $1500+ I'd imagine this cost to ditch their excellent factory HIDs and replace them with a different set of HIDs that have only slightly better lighting.
Also, I'm not sure who else I "bashed".
I can definitely see why he did it, I personally wouldn't do it because I couldn't justify the cost of switching out our already good TL bi-xenon projector for a single beam S2000 projector but if I had the money to burn, hell yes I would do it. S2000 AP1 projectors are awesome, very wide, good distribution of light output and very sharp cutoff. AP2 projectors are good, too, but the cutoff isn't as sharp.

Someone who knows nothing about lighting might come on this site looking for info. If they see this thread with nothing but positive feedback, they might think this mod will provide a huge lighting improvement (you yourself said that you couldn't justify the cost from a functional standpoint). Lets say this person goes and spends the money on a quad retro, and is disappointed because he expected to see a massive improvement. He might then think Acurazine is a poor place to go for info, since the thread had nothing but positive responses.
Now if the custom here on Acurazine is to just give nothing but "yes man" style positive responses to everything, then I can do that. However I don't think it would be particularly helpful to those who come on this site for info and want to know the usefulness and/or downsides of certain mods.
I could post things like this if it's preferable:
"Yes, gold plating your brake rotors is an excellent idea and completely worth the money."

I've always wanted a pair of S2k projectors, but I would never get rid of the TLs for them. TLs with a clear lens are pretty close to the performance of the S2k. The s2k may be a bit wider, but not noticeable enough to spend on someone swapping them out for my. TLs with mini H1s would be way more than enough light on the road.

Splew, we're not asking you to sugar coat things but the guy was just posting pics of his TL with the quad setup, he was looking for opinions on how it looks. If someone was looking into doing this there are other threads and I'm sure a few quick Google search would turn up that it is expensive and offers a small difference in light output. And since there is little change, I imagine OP did it for aesthetic purposes.
People buy what they want, they don't need people telling them they wasted their money on something when they like it. I wouldn't appreciate you bashing a set of expensive rims in the photo gallery because the "stock ones were just fine, why need new ones?"
It's like telling someone they wasted their money on a new set of exhaust tips or switching their interior lights to LED.
And on a side note, I don't recall seeing OP say how much the mod was.

^Point taken, and for the record I actually do like the way they look, and I think it's kind of a cool idea (that's what I meant by "interesting concept" in my first post).
Again, I wasn't trying to bash, I was just a bit taken aback as this is the first time I've ever seen someone do a retrofit purely for aesthetic reasons, usually it's purely functional. Obviously I would never say an expensive set of rims are a waste of money because rims are pretty much always a purely aesthetic mod.
