Question Here's a request for a mod...

Take a look at this thread from Problems & Fixes. In essence, it is about the reverse mirrors on the TL. As you know when you have your mirror adjuster to the the right, and you put it in reverse, the right mirror tilts down, and when left, the left mirror tilts down. When the adjuster is in the middle, or off, position neither one will go down. Someone please come up with a mod that will put both mirrors down when in the off position.

curious why would you need both mirrors down? backing into a single spot parking space that have curbs on both side?

That's a pretty fair question. The answer is "i'm not sure". It just struck me as an interesting mod to have. No?

I guess my thought is this. Why bother having to switch the mirror control from side to side based upon which side the curbs or obstructions are on. Wouldn't it be nice to not have to think about it?

on the same note though, when you are backing up and the curb is on the right, I want to look in my left mirror while backing up to check for other traffic coming at me....it's still nice to know when someone might be coming just in case....I dont need to see the ground on both sides, and the amout of time it takes changing the position of the switch is minimal compared to how long it woudl take to sit there, take apart the dash, and rewire a bunch of stuff....

I think it's a fairly reasonable request IMO and a great mod if someone could actually do it. The rearview camera has helped with backing up, but I've still found myself switching between left and right and just wishing that both would go down at the same time.

I'd be interested in something like this as well. I've been in a few situations where i've had to switch between the two.

Kevin, the guy on the forums who sold his window-up module and makes a few other items could probably do this. I would be interested but to install a module there would require taking the dash apart in order to get the trim around the switch out.

OR you have a drivway that drops 8-10 feet over its 60 feet to the street. If both mirrors tilted down as I back out in the early morning ANYTHING on both sides of the driveway (kids toys) and sidewalk would be visible.

I do look over my shoulder but the addition of both tilting would be nice for me. Yeah I'know, backing into the garage would fix all that !

I'd definately be interested in a mod for this one also...anyone gets one...hopefully I'll find it but if not...post it here

I have same issues with toys in the driveway or misc stuff left in the driveway, not to mention switching between curbs...

...woah woah woah...I think we all know how to drive, and pretty well if you own a TL...but when you have a house of 6 (2 younger siblings, and older brother, and mom and dad (I'm only 17)... theres always stuff left on the driveway that's nice and small...and not really made to be run over...

I think this mod is a great idea for just a fun afternoon project...if anyone ever discovers it..

My prospetive on this is to find what exactly triggers the mirrors tilting down. For an idea, could it be and electral charge of some sort that is linked to the reverse gear?
