Help w/Brakes on 2004 TL

The car is a 2004 TL with an automatic tranny. There is about 37k on the car and the REAR pads, calipers and rotors were replaced recently as the calipers were "seized."

The fronts need to be replaced as they continue to warp. The rotors have been turned already, so they won't turn them again. I am considering replacing the rotors and pads all at once by myself.

Since the fronts have given me fits with warping for quite some time, I am looking for your suggestion on a good pad and rotor that will last and not warp as easily.

The car is a commuter car and driven by a 60-year old. So, performance products aren't necessary unless they would help with the warping issue.

Thanks in advance for your suggestion on a product and a place for purchase of the same!

I use a combination of the RacingBrake Slotted Rotors and Acura A-Spec pads and I love them. The brakes stop very well and as well RacingBrake products are designed not to warp. However since you said you are not a "performance" driver, I think this combo should work well:

Rotora Solid rotors
Factory Acura pads

I would follow Cmeance's advice. He is wise beyond his years.

If you're looking for cheap pads and rotors, try some stuff from Autozone. If you're looking for quality, try the OEM pads and rotors Cmeance mentioned.

Thanks again for the tips. I do NOT want cheap parts. The goal is to have parts that will not warp and that will last as long as possible.

If the Rotora rotors are the answer, can someone please tell me where to get them? Also, where is a good discount hous for Acura pads?

Thanks again!

PM Excelerate - his name is Josh
Has Rotora `blank face` rotors and different pads depending on your driving style
Stoptech also makes good quality stuff, ask Josh for advice based on your needs

the factory rotors are well known warpmasters- not worth turning once- just replace with quality instead and enjoy

the rear brakes likely had a problem due to not having the brake fluid flushed every year
Acura says start at year 3 then every year forever, but I have changed plenty of fluid 2 years old and it looks really bad

Moisture is sucked in- wiki hygroscopic- and change the brake fluid every year
easy DIY or basic 1 hour job to do at shops
If they cant tell you the bleed order is LF RF RR LR- run away!!

Thanks! Unfortunately, I can't "PM" because I just joined. I will hit his website and try it that way.

What fluid is suggested for the "flush?" Finally, does anyone have directions on how to remove the rotor? I read about the screws and have dealt with them on other cars. I wonder if I should buy any special tool for those?

Thanks again!

I also own 2004 TL and bought PowerSlot rotors and GranSport 6 carbon-ceramic pads (tirerack.com). All replaced 2 months ago with ATE brake fluid flush as well. Stopping power great, only a little dust visible, but HEY ! no dust no stopping power and with this set you will get a better stopping then stock and won't pay big $$$.

there is a Garage section with brake DIY
only special tools are a breaker bar for leverage removing bolts and an impact screwdriver, 10-25$ to remove the retainer screws

A carbide drill bit will make fast work of permanent removal of them~ but thats after you try the impact driver
A BIG hammer may be needed, and some PB-- any kind of rust breaker lube- is plan A

Small pack of synthetic brake caliper grease, can of non chlorine brake cleaner
Brake fluid choice is open on brand- use DOT4 spec fluid, get 2 qts
and a turkey baster, $2 at grocery store- to remove old brake fluid from master cylinder res
