Help with trunk lip spoiler

so I installed the OEM trunk lip spoiler yesterday using the body molding tape. Didn't want to drill any holes into my trunk.

Anyway, I noticed that the 2 ends are sticking up a bit and are not flush with the top of the trunk. This is really annoying!

Did anyone else have this problem when they installed this spoiler? is there anything I can do to fix it? Remount? I do have a roll of 3M body molding tape.

just did this a few weeks ago and have the same problem i think its because i did it wile it was cold even though i used a heat gun in aaheated garage the cold air doesnt let the tape settle and then when you drive air gets between the tape and the surface on the corners and lostens it up just re-do it when its warm thats what im gonna do

Why not drill the holes? You dont intend to take the spoiler off of the car so might as well use bolts as they are used to mount deck lid spoiler as well.

I installed the Type S spoiler a few months ago and had to drill 7 holes in the trunk, only did that so that I wont run into this very problem. My suggestion would be to get a body shop to install it using bolts rather than 3M tape.

Another thing with the 3M tape is that anyone can just peal your spoiler off if you park it in a public space, you wont have that problem with the bolts .

Type S decklid spoiler? If so, 3m tape is not going to work. I tried it EPIC FAIL

Gonna have to grow some, and drill!

When I installed it, the left side had a gap. The right side was sitting pretty flush. I did the install in like 25 degree weather as well while using a hairdryer at the same time. I also didn't want to drill holes cuz I knew i would be taking it off and that's why you have it lol. If it's going to be a permanent mod for you, drill the holes and call it a day

Dammit... I guess I'm gonna have to drill some holes then.

Bought this from CHiNaMaN440 used so I think I might be missing some stuff. I did receive a box of mounting "bolts" -- 2x green plastic pieces, 2x white plastic pieces and 2x metal screws. I know for sure I did not receive a template so I will need to get a hold of that somehow.

This isn't the right set of instructions right? Doesn't look right.

If its the type S spoiler then there is no template, I should have uploaded the one that I made when I installed mine.

My suggestion would be to have a body shop install it.

Here is everything that you need

Sorry for the shitty quality. Too lazy to get the DSLR

^^ You have most of the stuff.

You would need three of those white pins, of which you only have two as shown in the pictures.

Along with that you'd need two nuts for the screws and three orange tabs circled in the picture below (to go along with the white pins since the white pins snap into the orange tabs)

^ I assume I can buy those from my local Acura dealership?

So no template for drilling holes?? Is there at least an instruction scan somewhere?

^^ BTW those big steel rods that you see are heavier trunk springs, Acura recommends using them with deck lid and lip spoiler since it helps against the heavier trunk. I didnt feel the need to install them since the trunk opens just fine even after the install.

Since the regular (thinner) lip spoiler is an Acura accessory you can have a template for it, the type S one comes installed from the factory hence there is no template.

I basically masked the trunk with masking tape and measured a few times before drilling the holes.

Holes are tricky though, they are not all the same diameter and the hole for the push tabs (orange one circled in one of the pictures above) is actually more of an oval. I had to drill a hole and use a dremel to make it big enough to have the push tabs fit.

I could have for the bolts and the bluish push pins but for the orange tabs I'd still have to use a smaller drill bit and the dremel.

I made holes in a piece of scrap metal plate and tested each pin out before drilling the trunk

After installing everything I applied silicone on the inside around each hole just to be sure no moisture gets in the trunk.

I bought a similar spoiler from the spoiler store on ebay for around $100 shipped. The 3M tape they had on it looked like it would work fine, but I also went to Autozone and bought some quick set epoxy. I pulled it into a heated garage, washed it with HOT water and let it sit for about 2 hours then installed the spoiler using the epoxy between the 3M tape. It sat down nice and I don't think that it will be coming off anytime soon!! Good luck with your, sounds like you have a difficult job ahead of you!!!

Orange tabs?!! You mean the yellowish looking ones? SO that goes in from the top and then the white things go inside those? Good thing I didnt attempt this, I was thinking those went in from the underside of the bumper

so the only difference between the type s and regular spoiler is that the one is thinner?

I used 3M tape for mine and it sticks on there fine. On top of the long strip of tape in the middle, I cut more 3M tape to fit all around the edges of the spoiler and then stuck it on there.

You gotta have patience thats all and of course clean the surfaces with isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) to make sure it's dust free.

Eh problem solved. I'm gonna have my contact/service tech at my local Acura dealership do it for me. He's asking ~$60 for the install including the missing pieces. Considering I live in an apartment complex with no tools and no heated garage, thats fine with me.

Hey turns out my spoiler is slightly warped I believe -- the edges aren't flush with the trunk

Is there some sort of adhesive I can use that'll really hold that guy down? I don't care if its permanently stuck on there since holes were already drilled.

I ordered mine off EBay painted from SpoilerDepot.

Wonder if it'll come w/ those clips in order for me to drill, or just 3M Tape?

I had the same issue once I was done installing the spoiler, recently I swapped the corner tabs with small bolts to pull down the spoiler and make it sit flush.

Pictures of the bolts? Where did you get them? How involved was the install?

Side note: I love Office Space!

Bought mine from the spoiler store also. Put heavy duty auto glud down the middle and placed it on using the 3m tape and glue. I also held it down to the car with some blue painters tape for about 12 hrs so it set right. Looks great with no gaps.

mine is on perfect on both sides, i ditched the tape that came with it and drilled holes to secure it down. it isn't that hard, just kinda of wrenching when drilling into your trunk.
