My tl is in the shop for 1st oil chnage.. I asked for synthetic and the guy told me that it would damage the engine. Said not until 15,000 to put in synthetic. Are they just BSing me? or what?

ok I went for it - Mobile1 synthetic - he kept telling me I can do it they just dont recommend it

 

I put Mobil 1 in at 4500 miles.

 

There are many ideas on this, I have heard that it is best to put in at first change, or to put it in after 12k miles or so after the engine broke in.

Many cars come from the factory with synthetic, but they are designed that way, not sure if it matters, but I am not an engine designer / engineer.

 

I would love to hear from the experts. I want to know for sure if its ok to put synthetic on the first oil change. I sure plan on doing so. Thanks in advance

 

BS use whatever oil you want. If you want to throw money down the hole buy synthetic.
