Help Plz Fast Fast Fast

Im changing my oil and i need to go someplace in 30min. Ive read that people put about 5 qts of oil in their TLs (3gTL). I just put 4 qts and check my dip stick and it reads just above the top line. Is this right? whats the average ammount of oil do you guys use?

4.5 quarts!!!

If its not to late, fill the filter with oil about half way and rub some oil around the o-ring seal before putting it on. Putting in oil and immediately checking it will not give you an accurate reading, it needs to circulate through the engine, then check it.

Start your car before you check the dip stick level since some will go to the oil filter. Turn off car and add more if necessary.

+1. Anything between 4.5-5 quarts will do you just fine.

4.5 quartz, says so in your manual, measure it and put it in. And IMO, Dino oil for the win!! namely Valvoline. Synthetic isnt recommended either. People still put it, but trust me. Dino for life.

Are you serious? I thought Mobil 1 syn was the best choice. I'll go with that one since its NASCAR sponsor. Mobil 1 and WIX filters is what I thought was the best.

for all I care nascar could put sand in their motors. Their motors are rebuilt after every race, so it doesn't really matter, they could use dino oil and be good. From the industry tests, royal purple and amsoil are the ones in the lead.

I always prime the filter so that during intial start-up, the oil galleys don't starve while waiting for the filter to prime...just a preventative measure that I was taught in motorcycle mechanics school. Hell, if I didn't prime the filter on my 7.3l diesel, I'd have to add another 2 quarts later....lol.

It's not required, but it is a good idea to pre-fill the filter during an oil change.
