There are rare exceptions like the MKIV Supras, maybe the new GTR once modified. But 99% of the imports present no challenge on the streets. You may have the one in a million Civic that would give a good run but you just don't see those cars on the street.

When we put on a track day, the average ET is low 11s with many, many 10 second street cars.

Basically a night at the large street races always started out with imports outnumbering us 2:1. By the end of the night it was nothing but Domestic vs Domestic since the rest had been eliminated. Contrary to popular belief, the American cars hold up much better in drag racing. Imports break left and right and clog up the lanes.

They give us a good laugh. Mostly because of the people behind the wheel but also the cars themselves. Everytime I went out I had to listen to some kid tell me my car was too heavy to take his Civic or it was too old or it has no aerodynamcis, the list goes on and on. We were the ones that went into it with an open mind since money was usually on the line. I looked for motor swapped cars, hidden nitrous, size of turbo and external components to get an idea of hp potential, type of tire, visible suspension work, etc. I was never the one making dumb statments to the guy who was about to smoke me. Then you have to hear about their "future mods" list and how when they come back they're going to destroy me. It just got old after a while.

Isn't that (one of the reasons) why Ford has kept the live axle in the Stang? Because it's super durable for drag racing? Or is that just them being cheap?

It's probably both. Live axles tend to have less wheel hop and no geometry changes like IRS. It's one of those compromises you have to make once the car starts getting fast. I got my car into the 10s with low 1.5 60' and a couple 1.4 60' on the stock axle before it gave up a couple years ago. The nice thing is when it does spin on the street and it slides, it's very predictable and easy to control. The high powered IRS cars I've been in were a handfull.

No doubt. That's the exact reason I want the 5.0. Easy to make it sound even louder & quicker with basic mods.

Acura does have some good engineering for sure. I've been very happy with mine.

However, you're extremely ignorant in your views of other cars. "Gutter parts and baller prices" lol. I want whatever you're smoking. "Rapid acceleration" is another good one when a TL-S can't hang with a V6 Mustang much less the GT and the Mustang is cheaper. I guess those gutter parts do pretty well together.

Agreed about the new Mustangs. I think the '10s are some of the worst looking exterior wise in a very long time. The CTS-V would be awesome. I also am more into the sedan thing. For some reason I've never been into Vettes and such. Maybe it's the many years of racing against them.

Me too, definitely. I have always driven sedans. I realize that a convertible would be nice and coupes are sexy, but I am always fine with a 4-door.

99% of the time it's just me in the car too, so it's not like a 2 seater would inconvenience me; I just like sedans.

And yes, I would agree as well that the styling of the '10 Mustang is nothing to write home about, but, ahem, 5.0. I think the Mustangs of the 80's and 90's were much, much better looking than these. But, 412 HP!

that may be true for the 2011 mustang, but not the 2010 which is vastly underpowered... 210 hp. 7 seconds to 60, 15.3 1/4 mile vs. 5.5 and 14.1 for 6MT type S. any of the V8s of course will beat a type S without any trouble. a friend of mine got a v6 2010, and she was very happy with it, but she stepped up from a late 90's camry of some sort but when she said 210hp i didn't believe her. thought it had to be more, at least 250-280. but it's not.

i have never desired a vette. i think they are great cars, lots of HP for the money. but they just seem a bit stale i guess for some reason. also they offer them with automatics and that just kills it for me. just seems wrong

it's hard to argue with that many horses... and i think they really put some work into the new 5.0 - the last GT500 they had was, uh, not so great... but i hear the newest one is awesome.

Just about every single sports car out there today has an automatic-option. Lambos, Ferraris, Porsches, 'Vettes, etc.

No kidding. Finding a Mercedes ///AMG product with a stick is actually impossible. Automatics sadly are starting to become more common than manuals in performance cars.

true, but didn't those other higher end cars introduce paddle shifters with SMGs as an automatic option? if i recall (and i'm sure this has changed now) the corvette has had a straight up auto for a long time.

either way though, it's really too bad that manuals seem to be going away. there is really nothing like double-clutching from 6th to 3rd @70mph and blowing by a whole line of cars...

Word. 3rd gear is wicked. I always absolutely smoke people (even more so than off the line) as soon as I get into 3rd gear. It's like clockwork.

Maybe minivans and other cars in it's class. However, mid/upper 14s is not exactly fast.

Not sure. Is the LS the rebadged Jaguar with the small V8? If so, I got barely beat by a friends car but mine is a stock 5at with a lot of weight in subs. Judging by how he beat me, a TL-S should take one.

pretty sure the type S will take a V8 LS:

http://www.modernracer.com/lincolnlsv8.html

we beat them by 1 second to 60, and .8 at the 1/4 mile. and 3rd is my favorite gear as well

Actually, the m/t is 14.3. That ain't bad. It's no 10 second drag racer, but I'm pretty impressed with the acceleration overall. It's a little soft down low, but the gearing and top end makes up for it.

i have found my TL to be powerful enough for basically any driving situation i've been in. obviously i wouldn't mind if it was faster but i have yet to get into a situation where the TL wasn't "fast enough" for me to do what i wanted to do. at highway speeds (75+) i rarely have to take it out of 6th gear.

i wouldn't take it to a drag strip, it's not that kind of car. but i think it's balanced pretty well for highway driving.
