"<" means less than
">" means more than
This is what I was taught in 4th grade..........
And make sure you reset your MPG after fill up and you will likely get a different range.

Reset / zero out your prior MPG, etc.... IIRC range is based on your recent MPG. ZERO out all of your prior data and I believe you will see different results.

Kahlil - probably should search on MPG- you'll get lots of hits.
Each poster may think that their issue is unique but it's amazing how many people think that. We have some extensive threads on this subject and the bad gas mileage is almost always caused by a LOW MPH mid read. I think you'll get a lot more out of the MID by looking at the first screen and not the second that only shows the range.
If you have a <20MPH MID, it means you're driving in an urban location and are stopped a lot of the time or you are idling your car for extensive periods of time or something like that. A lot of people think changing spark plugs, or air filter will solve the problem but it won't- so save your money. You might want to double check your tire pressure though.
As a point of reference, my MID often reads 26 MPH and that consistently yields me 19 MPG as calculated by the MID and also by hand with actual fill up data.

the reason it shows as >XXX miles rather than a figure is because the MID is calculating the range but the variance in MPG over the recent time period is so large, it can't compute an accurate reading.
After doing city driving after filling up and then getting on the highway, my 2004 TL's MID did the same exact thing. It showed >100 miles and creeped up to >180 and then remember seeing it at Range: 400 miles after being on the highway for 15-20 mins.

Also keep in mind it is winter(depending where you live). If you start your car and let it warm up for a number of minutes your gas mileage will suffer. When I had my car starter, I usual got around 180 miles a tank, now that my car starter is broke I just start my car and go and the mileage is now at about 250 a tank. I have a habit of resetting the MID everytime I fill up.

You shouldn't--manuals are used to tell owners about features that are not obvious.
The Owner's and Navi manuals for the 3G TL are linked in the 3G Service Dept./Garage thread stickied on the main page; the link is: https://acurazine.com/forums/third-g...t-pdfs-851625/.

when im driving around town and driving it cough "enthusiastically" the range estimator goes way way down. it really all depends on how you drive it. i dont pay much attention to it. as long as the gas needle reflects the miles that i drive and correlates with the mpg the car is supposed to be getting, i dont worry about it.

Mine started doing this as well, after leaving it at 0 mile range for 2 weeks and driving sporadically over short distances before finally filling up today.
It still shows >187 MI after driving for 10 miles after fill up, does it need to be driven a bit more before the range shows the "correct" value? Or is resetting / zeroing out the MPG the quickest solution (if so, how is this done)?

The only time I use the range is when I'm near 1/4 tank to see what that means in miles- I then double the calculation to understand what I really have in actuality.
It kind of infuriates me seeing the gauge read as low as it does and still have 5-6 gallons left in the tank. The gauge should be closer to 1/2 than empty.
I guess Acura didn't want too many road side assistance calls when our cars were new.
