The right size flat head will work too if you don't own any torx bits.

For future reference, I remember using pliers to EASILY remove it when I couldn't find the torx bit.

Holy moly. I was taking off the headlight and everything was going swimmingly, until I saw that thing and thought, 'what the heck is that?' the small raised part in the middle especially vexed me.

Luckily I found one of those torx bits in my garage and it fit. I ended up having to use pliers as well, GP - one of the sides wasn't coming off so it was the last resort. When I put them back on, I just made sure the cover was on securely and left those little torx screws off completely...if I ever need to swap out the stock headlight bulb, I NEVER want to have to deal with that again haha.

Thx guys for the incredibly fast advice/solution - got everything done today!

They are also called Torx, my son had a Saab and almost every fastener on the car were Torx. Many of the manufacturers now are going to them.

From what I have seen it's only called a security bit if it has the post in the middle.

The ones with the post in the middle are typically referred to as security Torx, or tamper resistant Torx. Regular Torx are the same, just without the center post. They are fairly common. Usually you can get a Torx out with a flat blade that fits tightly, or grind one down to fit. Thats what the security torx is designed to prevent.

Many other tamper proof fasteners exist, saying 'security' does not say much.

And they are not tamper proof or security if you can go to any auto parts store and buy the set of bits. They are Torx.
