Hello! Greatings, Rants, and Salutations

Hi guys, newbie here. If you don’t mind some rambling, we can see wher this goes.

I am in the process of waiting for my new 2006 TL- 6M, non-Navi, Anthracite/Quartz. I can’t wait!! The dealer called today and said the car should be here Thursday. As is typical, I stumbled across this website after I agreed to a price and put my $500 down to hold the car. I wish I found this website before I talked with the dealer!! I am a bit anxious about the cost- $31,700 before TTL. From what I can tell this is an OK price, but not great. Can anyone here in the upper Midwest (or anyone) comment of the price? I have not decided if I am going to rant or not when I go into negotiate the financing, etc.

Some general comments about what I have observed:

-Mirrors: I have adjusted my mirrors for years that do not use the side of the car as a reference on my 97 Civic. So far no blind spots that I can tell (knock on wood). I plan to do the same on the TL- hopefully this will work and I will not have to buy the after market mirrors. It is important to keep looking forward!
-Day time running lights: I like the forum that describes everything in detail. Wonderful job! The dealer salesman advertised the car as having DRL- I do not think he had a clue. I am planning to put the aftermarket module in but am a bit concerned about the warranty.
-Salesman: At WBL Acura in the twin cities- I taught them the differences between the 6M and the 5AT. Not a clue about the brakes, stabilizer bar, and the DRL. So far, not too impressed.
-Oil Changes: How many of you change your own oil? I have the changed oil on my cars for years (97 Civic, 97 4 Runner, 68 Mustang) Anything I need to know about?
-Tires: From what I have read about the Turanza’s I am a bit concerned. Any comments about the tires for snow country? (OK, well some of the time)
-Accessories: Anything that I must have for the upper Midwest? I am thinking about keeping it simple with the all weather floor mats.
-Tint: Can someone please explain to me what moleskin is? Did you put the tint over the factory tint? Any recommended tint shops in the Twin Cities?
-Alarm/Radar Detector: Does anyone use an aftermarket alarm/radar detector on the car?

Well that is it for now; sorry for the long post- I have a steep learning curve ahead. I will post pictures when I get the car.

I look forward to hearing from you all!

I think that's a very good price...did you get navi?

I just turn on my lights sometimes in the day. The brightness button on the dash for your interior lights also puts your GPS into daytime mode when you toggle it into "max brightness".

They're supposed to know this car inside and out, and in depth, mine all do at my dealership, they get quizzed on it even.

Not me!

If you got the Navi then you will be getting the Michelin's which are MUCH better tires, they worked great in the snow for me last winter. I even had the car up in the UP of Michigan on a ski trip and they were great.

All weather mats, trunk liner, possibly mud guards (can't do w/a-spec though).

It's an awesome car, you will love it! And...the more time you spend on this site...the more time you will spend learning about your car and various modifications you can do to it if you're so inclined. It's a great car and a wonderful website / resource. Welcome to the club....almost!!!

Hehe...no..my opinion is that in the TL you really only want the version with Navi. The screen, heads up display, and overall ergonomics are just SO much better. I would be asking that dealer for the same car WITH navi for that price!! Just ask the forums here...most anyone who has gotten their TL without navi now wishes they had gotten it!! Not to mention the navi itself is just awesome!!

The other benefit is that you're going to get way better tires....or would you rather go out and have to spend $800 on the decent tires? Look at it another way...that's $800 of the navi upgrade in tires alone right there! (Assuming you can get 4 decent tires installed/balanced for $800 that is....). The Turanza's are just terrible, short lifespan, etc.

I agree that the price you are paying should be with navi. Without navi should be around $29,500 to $30,000. Get on the internet and find a better deal.

Get the navi, you won't regret it.

Moleskin is basically a felt strip applied to the rubber wiper located inside the door panels. This is a simple but effective solution to prevent tint scratching.

Just tell him, you found it with the navi for the same price elsewhere and you would like to cancel the order. Dont even try and haggle. They are trying to clear out 06's, he will cave.

All right, I have to admit I am ignorant- I never actually considered the Nav system. Can someone give me the two minute scoop why i would want the system? For the most part I am pretty old school when it comes to figuring out where a place is before I leave and getting pretty good directions. Any other benefits?

The Navi is an exellent tool for you if you travel, even for me I use it to find different ways to my destinations. You know, off the beaten path and it has saved me time. The voice command is nice but I am still learning how to use it but in heavy traffic it's great if you're interested in paying attention to the road. I got my 06' with Navi for about $32,000.

GPS nav is awesome, but not worth 2k IMHO. I have a standalone unit that I got for my previous car. Works wonderful and cost all of $250 plus I can take it with me when I fly other places and use it in rental cars, on foot, etc.

Navi car apparently come with additional voice commands, and different tires. Oh and it integrates the GPS into the climate controls somehow. Not sure if there are any other differences. I'm sure someone will speak up.

There are a LOT of features integrated in with the navi, especially navi-bluetooth-hands free link integration. I'm not sure how much of the handsfreelink functionality you lose without navi... but I remember there were a few important things.

Hi gang- something interesting. I found out that invoice (or so what I was told) was $31,059 for non-Navi and $32,879 for Navi. This seems to agree with the information from Consumer Reports. Paying $500-$600 over invoice is not too bad.

The going rate these days seems to be about 31,xxx for a NAVI equipped vehicle. Also, that invoice price doesn;t take into account dealer holdback ($1000.00) and any advertising and floor-planning the dealer is getting.

You have that wrong.

It's a 3% of MSRP holdback and a $1k rebate to dealer right now.

If you ever travel to unfamilar areas navi is invaluable. You can search by place, name, city etc. If you want to find Chinese Resturant, Business, Post Office, etc; just enter, find listing with phone number, hit call if you have bluetooth phone and you got it.

Distances to listed in miles and time, warns of distance to exit, forks in the road etc, etc. Just a few of the features that I use off the top of my head. Should be called an information system cause it's not just navigation. As someone said above, factor in the cost of a set of decent tires and the price is very reasonable imho.

Exactly...so it's $2000 more to get the navi...but $800 of it can be justified alone in the better tires you get with the navi...bringing the cost down to $1200.

The car is just a ton better with a screen / navi... don't know how else to put it...once you have it you'll never go back to a normal car again. Also...the XM songs and audio information all come up on the navi screen..without navi you can't even see these screens!!

Do a search on the forums...trust us...everyone (well practically...let's say 90%) of TL owners prefer Navi! And most of those that didn't get it wish they did!!
