Height Observation

Sorry if a repost, but have not seen a thread about this and was wondering.........

After about one year of my father owning the TL (04, Anthricite, 5at) i hav noticed that the roof is alot lower than it seems; my father is the one who owns and drives the car every day. He is currently measured at 5' 9'' My brother drove for us (brother 6 foot) and his head is almost touching the roof. (like hair is rubbing against it) Does anyone actually need to maneuver their seat to prevent this problem? Is anyone here over 6' 2'' and drives the car?

just an observation

I'm 6'3 and I guess i never noticed. I must have my seat lowered to the floor substantially. Probably all depends on how you like to sit when you drive. There are many different ways to change how close you are to the roof though.

it could be possible that your brother was driving with your fathers settings in the drivers seat, and this is why he looked so close to the roof. he probably just needed to lower the seat since he was a little taller

<--- 6'6" and seriously getting my lean on ...

Actually its one of the better sedans out there as far as headroom goes. Ususally once you put a sunroof in I'm done ... the TL isn't bad but the seat back is usually in my kids lap when they're sitting behind me.

6' 1" and no problems. There is a possibilty that your brothers torso is longer and legs shorter. I have a friend who is the same height as me. His inseam is only a 30. His head is a little closer to the roof than mine.

I was just about to say the EXACT same thing! Seat height will absolutely vary due to different torso to leg proportions. My buddy is always taller than I when we sit down but I am actually taller by about 3 inches. He has a long torso but shorter legs.

I'm 6'3" with a long torso, and being able to fit into a car was my requirement during test-drives. My TL definately has more headroom than my old Landcruiser & my fiancee's Camry, both of which I scrape my head against the top. I'm very happy w/ the driver space on the TL, but I do feel bad for the people who have to sit behind me (kinda small amount of rear legroom for this class of car)

I'm 6'2" and my head room is fine... but the top of the speedo is obscured by the the steering wheel. The only thing that fixes that is tilting back the seat to lower my head further. I can't drive like that though.

6'4", no problems with headroom.
It's not overly abundant like the Honda Pilot I also drive, but not even my hair touches the headliner in the TL.

Well since I'm 3" taller than your brother, that might be part of it - also mine was a '95 - dunno if they were different

I'm 6'2", long torso, short legs. I'm a lot like Brewmaster in a car.

I recently test-sat a TL for this exact issue. I fit, but I had to tilt the backrest a little more than I considered ideal. (Ditto the Accord EX.) My wife's sunroof CR-V, by contrast, has headroom like a gymnasium.

You know whose headroom really sux? Toyota's. I never, ever fit in their sunroof cars. Even the ES330, which looks like the Popemobile, has no headroom. I think it's inexcusable.

Toyota's focus is on increased "Hip" height to ease entering/exiting the car for older folks. The cars only look tall until you sit in and find that it's mostly to make up for the fact the seats are positioned higher. I was parked next to the current generation Corolla in a parking lot. I looked over and I felt as though I was sitting in a slammed Civic! The Matrix based on the Corolla is even worse. For what it's worth, my TL is lowered about 1/2 inch with the A-Spec suspension.
