Heavy Passengers
Have a '04 TL and wonder if a heavy paassenger, say 375 pounds, would damage in some way either the front or rear seats. If so, how could this situation be tactfully handled?

Haha. That is a very wierd question man. I think overall if your passenger sits in the car alot like Daily.. you will notice the effects. Not too mention you may see the leather actually give way at the seams.
In my opinion if you really do care that your interior leather seats may leave noticable heavy weighted passengers in your car then dont drive them anywhere. But if its your good ol pal or a family member then bottom line... You are selfish and materialistic.
If its just a friend that you occasionally take around then alternate front passenger to the left rear then to the right rear and I guess you can spread the heavy weight around to match the wear or tear the seats take. So that way its not just one spot. One highly damaged spot wont match the rest of the car.. so spread it around.

Noooo not materialistic. You underestimate what people this size can do. My friend is closer to 450 I believe; I've lost track (and gosh, won't ask!) Forget the leather, that can handle it. It's the build of the seat itself; my friend has broken the back of a few seats before. THAT is what I would be worried about.
The basic problem is he can't get into the car comfortably, so he has to sorta.... wedge himself in. Back, forth, back forth; and that ends up putting a lot of stress on the 'hinge' of the seat. Not only that, but the seat ends up bulging outwards and you hear a "pop!" from the plastic siding (bolsters?) along the seat. Back seat is not an option in my case, this guy is 6'6.
I had to tell him a long time ago (tactfully) that I wasn't comfortable with him in my car because "they dont build cars to be that strong." He has a lack of respect for other people's property and so he got pissed at me anyway when I went off on him for throwing my door into the car next to me. I'm "anal". Great guy, but death on cars...
To answer the original question; you just gotta be mostly honest. If this guy isn't honest with himself yet that he's a big guy, you hurting his feelings is the least of his problems (though significant to you possibly.) Tell him he's a big guy and companies unfortunately don't realistically design for people his size. He already knows that for a fact if he's been that size for any length of time.

I recently had several friends from out of town drop in, when I picked them and their luggage up, I figure I added 800 lbs or so to my gross vehicle weight.
It felt significantly more sluggish, longer stopping, and when I checked my trip computer, I lost about 4 mpg from my average, hauling them around over several days.
It may not break your car, but you will be able to tell you have the extra weight.

A few ppl ever reported that the heavy luggage in a long trip may increase the wear of inside of rear tires (EL42s).
So far, we still don't know the causes yet.

Seriously, help that person with their weight problem. This coming from someone who used to weigh 220lbs when I was an undergrad and someone who now weighs 155 lbs (ever since Graduate school).
Besides it being unhealthy, it's not aesthetically pleasing (and you get a scrappy selection of clothes!!! ).

If I were caused so much angst by a friend....I would reconsider my friendship with them. As has been said before, get rid of the negative people in your life and move on with friends who can be positive.

I don't know about damaging the seats, but when my 6MT is loaded (ie: 5 adult passengers) with the A/C on, the car definitely labors and you can feel it when shifting.
