Heater question

My wife finds the heater too weak in her 2005 TL so probably won't by another although I really like the car and I am hoping she's get the upcoming AWD next. Has anyone changed the thermostat in theirs in a attempt to get hotter air coming out?

if the heater is not that good... when you bring the car in have them check the heater valve(s) your water pump the thermostat and heating core.

Both of my TL's ('04 manual, '05 automatic) have heaters that work great. The '05 is the wife's ride and she would complain if it didn't.

If you got the car in auto mode (Hvac) then the cars gotta warm up before it starts throwing hot air at you, and Yeah I dont run with it above 72-74 once the whips warmed up. Otherwise its a sauna!

Is it that air coming out of the vents isn't warm enough? Or that the tl's fan isn't exactly equivalent to the 50hp hurricane fan motors that American cars have?

Also, if you want the front fan to blow out air faster, close the rear vent.

I find the heater works really well. I usually crank it up when I first get in then drop it down to 73 when it warms up. The only thing I hate about it is that in auto mode it doesn't blow out of the center vents. Sometime I have to put it in manual mode to get it going when it's really cold.

Thermostat is probably not the problem unless you notice your temp gage isn't moving either etc..

- As tripnbeat mentioned above, have them check the hot coolant flow and or hot/cold air mixer valves to ensure they are working properly. Overall, something must not be functioning properly.

As most have mentioned, the TL's heater will down right cook you like a sauna if set above 74/75 degrees.

-- She is driving far enough to heat up the engine correct - and has the dual mode/zone turned off our set correctly??

Good luck!

Anybody out there find their TL gets too hot then switches to a cooler setting (in Auto mode) at which point it gets too cool? I run my 06 Tl at 68 degrees on auto mode. After a fairly short period of time I find it too hot and often crank open a window. Usually if I give it a half hour or so it starts pumping out cool air thru the side dash vents. Doesn't seem to do a very good job of maintaining a consistent temp.

My only gripe is that when it's set on Auto, it will not use the 2 highest fan speeds. So if it's in the 30's or colder in the morning, when the hot air starts going, I have to manually kick the fan speed up 1 or 2 notches. Yeah its a little loud but I want it to warm up quicker in the morning. Usually only takes about 5 minutes after the hot air starts coming out. Then I put it back on the auto setting. I don't like that I have to do this every cold morning.

Clicking the seat heaters on "HI" will help out as well.

yea but pricely the hi setting actually cycles heat through the seat as you drive... so the heat doesnt hit until the cars actually been running for a min.....the lo setting is best because it keeps the heat coming. or at least thats what the car manual says =)
