Heater core or?

Hey everyone, Wanted to get some opinions and some ideas. Been on here for a while, Have done SO much work to the car. Seems like I'm almost complete.

Question for you. 1. How do you know if it's a bad heater core?

2. I've heard that replacing a heater core in the 2004 TL is a pain in the ***. Is there any other way to do it?

What would be some things to check for to eliminate the possibility for a heater core? Or is there anything else that can be done before this, that you would recommend?

Thanks Guys and Gals, Your always more then helpful.

Make sure coolant is full and put pressure in the system. If you can see coolant leaking from AC drain tube, or somewhere inside the car, then heater core is a suspect.
To put pressure, you can just run the car until it warms up, but having a pump that connect to radiator cap would be much easier.

Why you think that heater core is bad?

To change it you will need to take the whole dash apart which is quite a lot of work. Alldata says it takes 8h.
