Question heated seats

are the heated seats designed to shut off after awhile then turn back on?

On the HIGH setting, yes - the heaters cycle on and off. At least that's what the manual claims. And this is new for '04. On the LOW setting, no.

Speaking of the heated seats, They suck, 5-10min to warm up, these cars are not built for the cold nor are they cold weather tested!

I keep considering disassembling the switch and replacing/fixing it to prevent the shutoff. I wish all manufactures would use the VW/Audi system that allows you to use a series of different temperature settings.

We're kind of satisfied how heated seats handle our needs so far. Perhaps, Calgary is too cold to let the system work immediately. Do you feel the same way in other vehicles? I'm not sure how other car's systems deal with this issue though.

Hey Warmwater,

Come up North to Edmonton...you wanna see cold.

I just got a new TL but my old Accord had no problem for heating the seats quickly. I would notice them in 3 minutes easily, especially on high.

I hope the TL is the same.

I think the TL seats warm faster than my 00 Avalon or my 96 Maxima. I have actually been impressed with how quickly the seats and the car warm up in very cold weather. Of course, I live in Toronto which doesn't usually get as cold as Calgary.

The seats warm up much slower than my '98 Cadillac STS did, but they get the job done. COMPLAINT FOR ACURA: The heated seat switch should be electronic instead of a fixed point rocker switch. When a passenger uses the seat at night, it is still on in the unoccupied seat the next morning. It should electronically shut off at ignition off and require switching back on upon demand. This is the way all of my other cars have been. (Cadillac, Infinity, Maxima, Lexus, Oldsmobile).

better yet, somewhat like the side airbag sensor.. however maybe in the butt area, if no one is sitting there (and the switch is on), the heated seat doesn't go on

The electronic self-resetting switch is a great idea.

The sensor seems like a good idea until you realize that sometimes people are waiting somewhere for a passenger, and like to warm up the seat in advance. If the passenger is a sig other or even just a date, the pre-heated seat can yield major bonus points!
