Heat Shield Question?
I have a 05 A/T TL and I took my car into Acura this morning (for the 3rd time) for a high pitched whining sound when accelerating. The first time they said it was the belt tensioner and replaced it (noise was still there), the second time they said they couldn't hear anything and it was probably just "engine" noise. Before the second trip to the shop I did some researching through the forums and mentioned the heat shield and even printed off some of the other members parts numbers that they had replaced, but to no avail they couldnt hear anything. Well this morning they call me and say that it is the heat shield but that Acura Warranty doesn't cover this and it will cost about $290+ dollars to replace it. I bought the extended warranty to 100K and the car was an Acura Certified Car.
Am I wrong in thinking that this should fall under the warranty? Is this something I can fix myself (I have no mechanical experience either)?

Did you take off the covers for your engine, fluids, etc?
Not sure if it is this, but my Uncle told me the covers are to maintain wind resistance, but not too big.

No haven't done anything to it yet. I told them not to touch anything and I'd pick it up this afternoon and would "think" on it. I just want to make sure it's not going to damage my car if I remove it, or if I should argue with Acura and try to get them to replace it under the warranty. Thanks in advance for everyones replies....
Does this apply to you:

Either way, when did you first bring up the problem? Seems to me if it was under warranty the first time it came up, it should be covered. Not your fault they took three tries to figure out the problem.
And I'd expect the CPO/Extended warranty cover it regardless. But you'd want to check the fine print to be sure.

Well they denied my argument from your service bulletin saying that the exhaust is only covered under the original 4yr 50K mile warranty. The extended doesnt apply in this case as I was at 52K miles when I brought it to their attention. Anyone think calling corporate and pleading my case could work? Anyone have any experience with this in the past, with another service issue? I know car companies are in it to make money but don't you think they should be trying to keep customer base and earn brand loyalty during these hard times?
do it they would def take it into consideration simply because the original warranty has been extended to 52k because they had odometer problems and since u brought the car to them with 52k on it u qualify for it to be kept under warranty plus if the wartranty is from honda and its bumper to bumper or drivetrain it still covers the exhaust.
heres the odometer site every car from honda i believe from 2000 to 2007 is covered under this
