a headliner fix...

I've had the last draw... i took my headliner in for its 4th fix... they even replaced the damn thing. About 30 mins into my drive home, i looked up and wow it fell down.

Now the thing i noticed is that the velcro thats stuck to the headliner comes off the headliner but the velcro piece thats stuck to the metal roof sticks very well to the metal roof of the car. So i was thinking of getting a glue gun and put some hot glue on the headliner and let the velcro sit on it till it hardens. Then stick the headliner back to the roof. Wat do you guys think? Any one try this?

Any help would be possible... driving with a hanging headliner for 6 months is getting kinda annoying.

Maybe the heat is softening up the adhesive on the velcro to metal roof. I think glue gun might be a good idea.

save yourself a lot of time - do a search on Headliner - you will be amazed at all the threads on Headliner....

Epoxy has worked for some - the two tube stuff. Or if that does not work - Magnets. Yes, I said magnets.

I wouldn't try to fix it yourself, because if it happens again, and you take it back to the dealer, they might turn you away because you may have caused it. I say keep taking it back to the dealer and make them fix it, if its such a hassle, maybe they'll give you a new car?? ok Probably not, But hey, anything can happen.

I used epoxy and it works well - the only thing is to make sure you scrape off the white adhesive double-backed tape because that stuff rips off the epoxy!

I took my car back the other weekend since the white tape ripped off and they put new pieces of velcro all over the roof, so now I have 4 or 5 pieces of velcro holding up the headliner near the sunroof.

If this is really the fourth time you've taken the car in for a headliner fix, you would likely qualify for damages under California Song-Beverly Act (the lemon law.) The main question is whether the defect constitutes a nonconformity which "substantially impairs" the use, value or safety of the vehicle. I would venture to say that any objective person walking down the street would find a sagging or falling headliner to be a substantial impairment to the use and value of the car. Just my .02.

The way I read this is that there is no problem with the top piece stuck to the metal bar, but the problem is with the bottom piece stuck to the headliner.

Actually, the bottom piece is not stuck to the headliner, unless they made a production change I have not heard about. The bottom piece fits into a clip attached to the headliner.

Is it the clip that is coming loose? If so, this is the first time I have heard of this. And also if this is true, watch how much glue you put on the headliner because it could seep through and leave mark. I would really consider having them replace the whole headliner (again). Make them do it right.
