Headlight modifications?

I see pictures of forum member's cars with a variety of headlight modifications. The ones that catch my eye usually involve altering the orange/yellow strip of headlight that wraps around the side of the vehicle. On some cars the orange strip is removed slightly, with only a small portion of it remaining toward the back of the headlight. On other cars it's removed entirely, with a completely clear headlight scheme.

My question is how do you guys do this? Is it a DIY or do you need a mechanic to get inside the headlight? Forgive me, I just recently bought a TL and have no experience with mods.

The search tool and garage are your best friend here

Also there are a couple vendors here that will customize them for you such as Bruce (EndLessRPM) or JnC.

The cheap way to get rid of the amber is to remove the piece entirely.
Looks cheap, to some people. But it gets the job done, also allowing the use of switchback LEDs.

The other method to get rid of the amber is to replace the amber piece with a clear piece.
These clear pieces usually cost over $100.

You can even do headlight modification and keep the orange diffuser too and have it look great

Agreed with all of the above, there a few resources to use for headlight work, however, with some determination, you can DIY it as well.
Here's mine - before and after, i have an 07 base, so I blacked out the housing, i installed smoked turn signal diffusers that are CF wrapped on the ends, and then painted the headlight/drl light bezels and the chrome strip on side purple, and lastly upgraded the stock fresnel lense to a ZKW-R clear lense...very first time I ever modded a headlight on my own, i'll be changing it up next year, I want to incorporate demon eyes, and maybe even do some halos..will see lol...

What are switchback LED's?

Also, I've been looking around the forums and these are the type of lights I'm interested in. Clearing out the orange diffusers for lights, and adding halos and maybe a DLR strip.

I'd also like to give the fog lights that LED / xenox look (aren't they just standard lights stock?). I'm hoping for the headlights a vendor here could handle it, but for the fogs would that be something I could order / install with relative ease?

for your fogs, just buy H8 LEDs or HID kit
install is simple

TBO - Switchbacks run white, and then blink amber - so you can have a maintain a color scheme on your lighting, but still be legal as most places will give you hassle for lights in front blinking anything other than amber.
Endlessrpm.com (Bruce, vendor on Acurazine - Acktl05) sells bulbs and other items as well - i'm running the LED fog bulbs that he sells.
Check the 3G Garage for diy threads..etc will become your best friend
