Headlight issues

I recently purchase an '06 TL 6MT w/ 105k. It has been wrecked in the front & repaired prior to my acquiring it.

The headlights have been fogging whenever it rains or wash the vehicle... what can I do to remedy this??? Not sure if they were replaced after the accident (Good possibility)... and if so.. if they were OEM or some cheap aftermarket units.. not sure how to tell???

The driver's front has been the worst offender w/ the fogging issue.... and recently that HID has quit working, but the fog light still works. I replaced the bulb & it still did not work. So I checked the fuse & it was blown.. replaced it & still does not work. So I have ordered a used igniter & ballast off ebay...

Also the neither of the high beams are working.. with the when I hit the high beams.. the fog lights turn off... but there is no change in the low beam brightness... could this be caused by the issue I have with the low beams... or is it a separate issue???

1 bulb for low and high beam...thus why its called a bi-xenon bulb.
it should not get brighter when using high beams, rather a solenoid shield will move out of the way, lighting more area.

when flashing high beams, the fogs SHOULD turn off.

the crab speaketh the truth.

in regards to the fogging, there's a crack somewhere in the headlight that's letting water in. either reseal or replace.

Thanks for the quick response...

would the issue I'm having with the drivers HID not working be the cause... or a seperate issue? I don't believe the high beams were working when both HIDs were still working... but I am not for sure.

Is there a fuse for the solenoid... or is it just bad/good?

bad or good.

drive to a flat wall and turn on your lights, when you pull the stalk for the high beam, the top portion of the wall should illuminate.

if they truly don't work, the headlight units may be bad and if that's the case, may need a replacement. There's a headlight on the black market for sale here:https://acurazine.com/forums/car-par...4-06-a-944954/

I have a driver side headlight for sale as Johnny linked above my post. It is like new, never opened and has been polished and sealed.

Please note that it is just the assembly and does not include the ballast, ignitor or bulbs.

you can actually hear the solenoid flipping back and fourth!
sit in your car with it off and flash the high beams!! you'll hear it "click" i think, as it moves out of the way.
and if you have a friend or a Significant other, they can do the flashing and you can do the looking!

I truely believe the water or condensation from the cracked headlight took out the bulb and or igniter/ballast.

you can trouble shoot, by swapping sets...from L to R and vice versa. if problem follows bulb/ballast, then you have your culprit

If you need a housing check the black market, I have a driver side housing. No broken tabs/cracks.

I would wait until you get the new ballast in before moving on to the next step of troubleshooting. As for the high beams not working, there might be something electrical going on?

solenoid should work independently of the ballast though.

Yeah.. I have already verified that the beam is not changing when the high beams are engages (at least on the passenger side)... I did not hear the high beams actuating... but I will have someone else hit the lever while I listen under the hood.... I saw a method to test the solenoids on youtube...

I didn't want to have to pull the front bumper any more than needed... so I just went ahead & ordered a ballast & igniter... I had planned to crack the lights open anyways & black out the chrome & remove the orange diffuser... you know "while I was in there"

Didn't realize that this could necessitate replacing the entire headlight assemblies... man those things sure are pricey!!!

200 bucks for both is a steal of a deal!

how do you plan on replacing the ballast/igniter without taking off the bumper?

It could just be the bi-xenon solenoid is disconnected too .

Yeah.. I just don't want to do it more than I have to... which is why I went ahead and ordered a ballast & igniter vs. swapping sides

Thanks for all the quick replies!!!
